Adin Hill keeping Tuscon in this game according to Stockton PBP. Aagard line having all sorts of quality scoring chances, but Hill making the saves.

Tuscon ties it on the PP. 2-2.

PBP says Gillies had no chance, was screened.

Poirier using his speed again to create another scoring chance. PBP guy calling Poirier a man possessed. Says even a skater like Kylington is having trouble keeping up with him.

PBP comparing Lomberg to Fleury. Not the scoring, but size and tenacity.

Jankowski’s Hat Trick Leads the Way vs. Tuscon

October 7, 2016/in News /by Brandon Kisker
Stockton, Calif. – The Stockton Heat defeated the Tuscon Roadrunners 3-2 Friday night at Stockton Arena. Mark Jankowski led the way with 3 goals to nab a hat trick, the first the team has ever recorded. Between the pipes, Jon Gillies made 19 saves for the victory. Thanks to Jankowski, the Heat were able to play both of the goal songs, and you can vote now on by logging on to StocktonHeat.com. The Heat will travel to Bakersfield tomorrow to complete the preseason against the Condors at 6:00 p.m.

Despite it not going down in the history books since it occurred during the preseason, Jankowski’s hat trick was the first ever for the Heat.

QUOTES

“Obviously, it was good to come back and have success right off the bat and it’s preseason so we have a lot to work on as well. I’m playing with two really good line mates there in [Andrew] Mangiapane and [Matt] Frattin, so it’s easy to produce with guys like that.” – Mark Jankowski on how he felt coming back in his first preseason game with Stockton.

“I don’t know exactly how it went in, maybe it hit the goalie or maybe one of their D coming to the net. I don’t know, I just saw it laying there in the net after, so it was good to get that one and get the win” – Jankowski on his hat trick and game sealing goal late in the third.

“I’ve been getting better every time. The last game I played in Calgary against Winnipeg, even though we lost, I felt I played pretty well. The same thing kind of happened here. The first shot went in and then I settled in after that, but I feel okay and it’s a process. It’s been a long time and [I’m] just trying to get better every time.” – Jon Gillies on his comfort returning to the Heat for the first time since suffering his season-ending injury in 2015-16.

“I thought the [Mark Jankowski] line was good. Matt Frattin for me was very good, as well. I think that’s what we need from your older players. So you have two younger guys that he’s playing with. The older guys usually set the standard for how the team and the players play and I thought because he was on tonight and played a hard game, I thought Mark was good. I thought Andrew [Mangiapane] was good as well. So it was a line that did a lot of good things for us tonight.” – Head Coach Ryan Huska on his top line of Mangiapane – Jankowski – Frattin.

“I think for us there’s a confidence factor, knowing that if we make a mistake that Jon [Gillies] will make a save. And I thought that he was steady again tonight. When we were on our heels, he was there to make a save and I think your backend responds that way. So we know if something happens, that there’s a pretty good chance he’s going to bail us out, so even if you’re younger, you have a lot more confidence because of Jon in the net. It was a good first start for us.” – Coach Huska on Gillies performance in net.

McDonald Stops 19 in Preseason Finale, as Heat Fall in Bakersfield

October 8, 2016/in News /by Dustin Cowell
Bakersfield, Calif. – Despite a solid effort from rookie goaltender Mason McDonald and Brett Pollock’s first goal of this preseason, the Stockton Heat fell to the Bakersfield Condors in their final preseason tune-up 3-1 Saturday night at Rabobank Arena. McDonald got the nod in net and went the distance, stopping 19 of the 21 shots he faced. However, a pair of special teams tallies led Bakersfield to the win and sent the Heat back to Stockton with an even .500 record at the conclusion of the preseason. The Stockton Heat will open their regular season this Saturday, October 15 when the San Jose Barracuda come to Stockton Arena for the Heat’s Opening Night.

3rd Period

Bakersfield goal: F Joey Benik (1) point shot off the draw gets through traffic and beats the goaltender (Simonelli, Russell assists), 9:00 (PP)

Final Shots: STK – 38 | BAK – 22
Power Plays: STK – 1/4 | BAK – 1/7
Brett Pollock (1 goal) scored his first preseason goal and his first power-play goal
Mason McDonald stopped 19 of the 21 shots he faced in his first AHL start

QUOTES
“I think it’s good to back into the rhythm, but you want those wins for sure. I think now we just need to focus on the season starting Saturday and I think we’ve got a good group of guys here heading into the season.” – Emile Poirier on his views of the preseason and looking forward to the regular season opener.

“I’m just trying to focus on my game and play well on both sides of the ice. I know I’m one of the older guys on this team now, so I want to take on more of a leadership role and help some of the younger guys along like some of the older guys have done for me.” – Poirier on taking on a larger role this year with the Heat.

“I thought we did some good things in the offensive zone. We just didn’t have a lot of finish tonight. You look up and you see 38 shots with just one goal – we’ve got to find a way to score some more in that situation.” – Head Coach Ryan Huska with his thoughts on the offensive game tonight.

“[Fan Fest] is what it’s all about. We have a great core group of fans that support us. Whether it’s a week night or a weekend, they’re always there. This gives them an opportunity to meet some of our new players and obviously gives them a chance to ask some questions to our coaching staff. We’re excited to see everyone out and get to chat with the fans.” – Coach Huska on looking forward to Sunday’s Fan Fest at Stockton Arena.

The Stockton Heat, proudly owned by the NHL’s Calgary Flames, announce that forwards Luke Adam, Andrew Cherniwchan, Curt Gogol and Phil Lane along with goaltender Ryan Faragher have been released from their tryouts. In addition, goaltender Mason McDonald has been reassigned to the Adirondack Thunder of the ECHL. The Heat now have 28 players at training camp (2x goalies, 10x defenseman, 16x forwards).
So Flames prospects in the ECHL so far are McDonald and Falkovsky.

You only have 15 forwards. Same ones I have too, which means we are both forgetting the same one. Weird.

Also, man is that a young defense. I figured the AHL contract guys would be vets, like Johnson last year, but nope..Doetzel and Dyukov are 20/21 and both AHL rookies. I guess Robak could still get an AHL deal and be the token vet.
