Wi-Fi. Why do I need 3G when I've got so many other 3G products.

My WiFi kindle just arrived and is charging up. It's smaller than I thought, but I think the iPad may be messing me up for the size of things. It's light. I could probably read with just one hand. The screen looks much better than the Sony Reader that I looked at earlier this year. The screen refresh is pretty fast. Hopefully I will get to read something this weekend and test it out. Time to take a chunk out of that amazon wish list.

Mine is on it's way.. it's last record was that it had been received in Mississauga on Monday, and the expected delivery date was this past Wednesday.

Mine arrived in Mississauga on the 10th and was estimated to be delivered on the 15th. I bet you'll get it on Monday.

Yup, that's what I'm expecting. Except I had to deliver it to my house, which I won't be at, so I'll probably have to go pick it up somewhere.

Do either of you have a Kindle 2? I'm curious to know if the 30% difference in contrast is very noticable or not when you get your Kindle 3s. I'm really happy with the Kindle 2s contrast as it is, so it'll be interesting to hear your thoughts.

No I didn't have a Kindle previous to this and I never got to use one. Amazon is claiming 50% better contrast for the Kindle 3.

How much are books to download and read on the e-book readers? I'm completely ignorant of this whole E-book war, so I was just curious. Thanks.

Depends on the book, but about $10 I would say. You can find books for free and the most expensive that I've been interested in was $70 for the Kindle. The normal price for that book is about $150 just for comparison.

The best way to know is search for books you tend to read. You'll get an idea pretty quickly. Check this link out:

I have a small problem, I tried to order the $139 Kindle and it was saying they couldn't ship to my address in Calgary. I don't know why it's saying that it won't work. Anyone else having this problem?

Bumpity bump.
I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on getting an ebook reader tomorrow. It's between the latest generation wifi Kobo for $149 and the newest wifi Kindle for $139 (US I think). Any idea which is better? The Kindle appears to have a keyboard on it - would you use that just for typing in search terms or can these things surf the web, too? TIA

The Kindle is the most feature rich reader of the bunch. The kobo is the bare bones model, but it does the job.
I don't use my kindle to browse the web, but it's possible, and good for checking mobile sites or your email. There are even a couple games available for the Kindle now.

Get the Kindle, IMO. It's a great device.

I recommend the Kindle. Been using mine for the past couple weeks and loving it. I took a brief look at the newest Kobo and I think the Kindle is the better device. The Kobo feels cheap to me and the screen didn't seem as nice. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. You can use it to browse the web, but I don't. I think the keyboards main function is to browse the amazon store.

Wow guys, I guess it's unanimous. Thanks a lot for the feedback. I am going to buy two today (one will be a Christmas gift for my mom). Can't wait!

I know a guy who purchased the new Sony reader a couple weeks ago.
I was pretty impressed. Touch screen, the ability to draw on it to take notes.
That said, my boss got a Kindle and I think it is a better product if the only thing you want to do is read. For me, the taking notes or drawing diagrams is a pretty key feature though.

Yeah we're just looking for a dedicated reader. My wife and I are going to share it, but if we use it a lot I'll get one more so we each have our own. My iPhone is never more than two feet from me and I make notes on it a fair amount...doubt I'd use the ebook reader for anything other than reading.

The downside to the touch reader is that the screen is slightly reflective, which makes it tougher to read in the Sun. The biggest advantage to an ereader is that you can read it like you'd read a book, without worry of glare when you're out in the sun.
