Default Sean Connery's prime

Bit of a debate I have been having with my brother.

The actor Sean Connery is beyond doubt one of the greats of yester year. The issue of our debate is at what point of his acting career did he reach his prime in regards to fame and to some extent as a sex symbol.

Was is during the '60s when he immortalized the character of James Bond, 007 British secret agent? Or did he reach higher levels of popularity in his post James Bond acting?

Opinions?

I watched the Rock earlier today. Beyond that, I have no opinion to add.

WIthout a doubt his popularity has never stopped climbing. Women love him, even the 75 yr old version.

Definitely the height was in the Bond era. He did have a long career though and had some ebb and flow to it. He was biggest in the Bond era but was also pretty big in the late 80s/early 90s (indy 3, Untouchables, Hunt for Red October) and then again in the mid-late 90s (The Rock, First Knight, The Avengers).

From Wiki:
Quote:
In 1989, he was proclaimed the Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine, and in 1999, at the age of 69, he was voted the Sexiest Man of the Century.

Great post full of unwavering support of a favorite actor, but Sean Connery has quit acting.
Connery has said: "There is nothing that will persuade me to get back into acting. It's over - I will never, ever do another film." That was November 2008 I believe.

Sean Connery, after leaving the role of James Bond had his career go into a nosedive. He spent most of the the 70s and 80s doing bad movies. His career had gotten so bad that by 1983, he agreed to be James Bond again in a bad remake of Thunderball produced by another company.

Sean Connery's career and popularity did not recover until he filmed in Untouchables in 1987. After that, he transitioned into the older leading man role that he was famous for in Indiana Jones, the Rock, etc.

There's such a huge gap between James Bond and the Untouchables that it's almost like he was two different actors.

As much as I love the Bond Connery, I'll always like the older version just because that's how I grew up watching him.

Didn't Sean Connery turn down the role of Gandulf in the Lord of the Rings movies because he'd never heard of it before?

He turned it down because he said he never really understood the plot of the movies and he didn't want to spend 18 months in New Zealand filming the 3 movies back to back to back. Rumor was his payday would have been a percentage of the films profits which totalled 2.9 billion worldwide.

Haven't liked him at all since he did that interview in which he talked about hitting women.

His prime was when he was on Celebrity Jeopardy and tormented poor Alex Trebek.

Yeah, I remember this interview with Barbara Walters. I was always surprised it didn't generate more of a backlash for him. If that happened in an interview today I'm not sure he would recover form it.

"We will pass through their outer defences and sonar nets. And will sit outside their biggest city and run missile drills while they listen to their 'Rock and Roll'.

He never left his prime. Red October and Indiana Jones are my favorite of his movies. He was undoubtedly one of the 2 best bonds - I prefer Craig but Connery is a close second.

His best work was on Celebrity Jeopardy.

Sean Connery: You think you're pretty smart, don't you, Trebek? What with your Diego mustache and your greasy hair!
