She annoys me too. Talking about how her husband has to win 3 cups so each of her three sons will get a cup ring from daddy. Like shut the hell up, you're lucky to have won one.

Have to think that the Kings also planted a package outside his door when they contacted him on Skype to break the News to him. Meanwhile having an army of private eyes outside his house to film any potential contract breach.

His contract makes me laugh every time I think about it. Nearly $6MM cap hit for six more years for a 10-15 goal guy? lol ####.

Sorry that it's such a terrible thought, but this makes me wonder, what happens re: salary cap if a player passes away? Someone might know from the Boogaard incident a few years ago.
I imagine they just come off the books entirely :/
EDIT: Okay I found a response from Boogaard's passing for anyone else who's now curious
Quote:
“Perhaps the most awkward query of the day was the last one, as I just learned that, as you might expect, the remaining three years on Boogaard’s contract do not count against the salary cap. It turns out that under the CBA, death is the same as retirement from a salary cap standpoint – according to the NHLPA, had Boogaard been over 35 years old when he signed his contract, the rest of the contract would have remained in effect against the cap.”

^So if a player is 36 year's old and passes away in a freak tragic accident their cap hit still counts?? That's stupid!

Doughty is well-liked, but he's not a leader. Kopitar will wear the C.

Haha LA is such a greaseball organization. As always, I'm hoping this backfires on them. If they can figure out how to turf Brown somehow, they recoup 7 million in salary for just next season.
Kopitar is going to make 14m in salary. Crazy.

Maybe its given to Toffoli? who knows.
The kid has really amped it up the past few seasons. Not sure how his leadership roles are but its possible.

Only if his contract was a multiyear deal that came into effect after he was 35. It would be the same as if he retired in that situation (like will happen with Datsyuk next season). There aren't usually very many contracts that meet those conditions because most players make sure to sign a big final multi-year deal before they turn 35. Right now, there are only 9 players under contract for next season on 35+ multi-year deals.
I'd guess that if the situation ever occurred, the League would probably give the team an exemption for the remainder of the deceased player's contract.

Celebrated Square Root Day

Have those suggesting Doughty as the next captain ever seen the guy discuss anything at length? He's an amazing hockey player but a huge dummy, who doesn't come off as able to succeed in a leadership role in any capacity.
In any behind the scenes stuff he comes off as a "Sitting on a rock, staring at the sun" type of player. Where did the leadership stuff come from?

Dustin Brown's no Einstein either whenever he's interviewed, and he seemed to do fine leading the Kings to two cups. Who knows how intelligent they really are off camera.

I'm a firm believer in the best leaders lead by example. Doughty is an elite player on the ice. He's absolutely 100% a leader.

Pretty sure they implemented that rule to discourage the Kings from murdering players to get rid of their cap hit.

Looking at the list of Kings recent captains - would have never guessed the 3rd guy of the 3 captains they've had since 1996. Dustin Brown, Rob Blake and for six season.

Captains have off-ice duties too. You don't make Jeff Spicoli the captain of an NHL team.

They didn't get lucky. They absolutely cheated, and the NHL looked the other way. This after they got cap relief for Slava Voynov under "Long term injury", despite the fact that he was suspended, wasn't injured at all, and there was no provision anywhere for cap relief in the case of a suspension. The league might as well just come out with a press release that says "we will no longer be enforcing the salary cap vis a vis the Los Angeles Kings".
