So you think what happened on Oct 7th was part of a war? Weird take. It was a terrorist attack. You can't charge terrorists with war crimes.

Why is that? Do you think they should be allowed to con with their genocide?

A recent resignation of a staffer of the US state department is getting a fair amount of publicity in western media, first though a story published by The Guardian and then now, an interview on CNN.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...a-biden-policy
Quote:
A human rights official has resigned from the US state department over Gaza saying the Biden administration is flouting US law by continuing to arm Israel, and is hushing up evidence that the US had seen on Israeli human rights abuses.
“The fundamental reason was – I no longer wanted to be affiliated with this administration,” Sheline told the Guardian. “I have a young daughter. She’s not yet two, but if some day in the future, she is learning about this and knows that I was at the state department and she asked me [about it] – I want to be able to tell her that I did what I could.”
|
Quote:
“Not only are these policies devastating the people of Gaza, but I think they’re also devastating the US image in the world,” she argued. “This administration came in promising to rebuild American diplomacy and America’s moral leadership after the Trump administration, but so many of these issues that the administration said were so important – including human rights – seem to be less important to this administration than the US-Israel relationship.”

Yeah, she's pretty incredible. Even brushing off the suggestion that it must be hard for her, saying instead that she's privileged and it's harder for others to leave their jobs.

As an aside, wouldn't an elected government sending in an armed force to attack another country be a declaration of war?

Gaza is not an independent country with an elected government.
Hamas is a militant group attacking an occupying force.

If only everyone just followed the rules. Life would be so much better.
Releasing the hostages would be a good place to start.

I think not starving the population of 2 million people would be a better place to start.
Does Israel not realize if the Gazans are starving so are the hostages?
Think the world knows israel does not care about the hostages.
Also yes if Israel followed the rules then life would be much better for everyone. Like the UN ceasefire.

Seems insane.

Because if you were not to allow that Palestine is an entity separate from Israel, then this is similar to what China did to the Urghers (sp), attacking a group internal to their own country, to which the world had very little response except for very careful condemnation.
I'm not reframing anything, as I've mostly abandoned this thread because the posts are very tribal. I'm asking about whether this is considered a war, or if this is three groups in people's minds. Hamas, Israel and Palestine (or four, IDF).
If Hamas is separate from Palestine, the questions that arise about liberation from them are more interesting than half the posts in here. Would Palestine taking an active role in their removal stop the war?

So that’s why Hamas is raping hostages? Because they are hungry?

Who mentioned anything about Hamas? I said the population of Gaza was starving or do you only have empathy for a certain group?

Forgot that Hamas has nothing to do with this conflict. My bad.

Instead of catchy one liners maybe try paying attention to the posts you type and what people say when they reply.
Nobody was talking about Hamas being hungry and rape of hostages. That was you trying to deflect from the starvation of millions of Gazans. Don't think anyone going to let that slide any more and call you out when you come in with your trolling posts.

What a strange response that failed to answer the question. I'll ask again.

If so why?
And by following the rules are you talking about the rules that the ICJ ordered Israel to follow and stop deliberately starving a whole population?

He (and others) are speaking to the rules that are created for the benefit of the west. International rules are not applicable in this case.

I think you're confusing a joke of a PM as a country, having spent time and even lived in 11 other countries over the last 40 years I will defend this country to the end.
What you should do is realise when you were born in this country it's like you won the lottery because there's a hell of a lot worst.
Even with Trudeau were still #2 on a lot of lists
