Flames vs. Oilers - Game 1 of the 2016-17 NHL season
Game #1 - October 12, 2016 - 8:00 pm MDT
Calgary Flames (0-0-0) at Edmonton Oilers (0-0-0)
Welcome back Flames fans. We are exactly 4 weeks away from the first puck drop of the season. The Flames are travelling to Edmonton to christen the Oilers' new arena. Hopefully Calgary gets the first win in their new barn.
Questions for the game:
-Who will score the first goal
-Who takes the first penalty?
-Do the Flames shut out the oilers in game 1?
-Will Gaudreau sign in time for the first puck drop?
-Will Tkachuk be on the roster or back in the OHL?
-What is the Puppet up to?

I think the puppet will need a mullet to commemorate the new, startlingly mullet-shaped arena.

It would be amazing if the Puppet could visit Rogers Arena for this momentous occasion.

I hope not. The Oilers won the last game at Rexall beating the hapless Canucks. They were however thoroughly embarrassed in their second last game as they were destroyed 5-0 by the Flames.

Great write up as usual. I'm really looking forward to this one tonight!
I think this is a guaranteed-lose game.The Flames always stink the first game of the season + the Oilers always like to go on a bit of a run at the beginning of the year, whipping everyone up into a froth, before completely collapsing.
Can't wait for 8pm to get here.

I'm interested to see how the starting lineup shakes out. Elliott gets the start in net. Giordano and Brodie start on D, and Monahan will find out shortly who will flank him. Likely Gaudreau and Brouwer, but we'll see. Come onnnnnn game 1.
I'm not saying if be happy if the Flanes go 1-81-0, but if they do I'll be satisfied if they start of the year with a win. When the trivia question comes up on which team won the first game in the Mullet, I want the answer to be the Calgary Flames.
