No issues with him ducking under the hit. As long as the player doesn't go low to the knees then it shouldnt be an issue.

I for one wish the Oilers would be a lot better because it would force us to match them. When your closest rival excels it drives you to compete harder

A good way for Pukov to break someone's face into the dasher with a stunt like that. What a knob.
He is a rookie if he still ducking hits 2 years from now the league knows what kind of character is.

I believe Darryl said get the stick up in his teeth. So you're right not ducking.

That is my biggest pet peave from when I played, either take the hit like a man or sidestep, dont turtle and take out knees. My remedy was to drop down and give them a sliding knee to the face or drop the gloves and start swinging.

I kinda doubt any Flames players care about how the Oilers do. I think it's more of a fan thing.

Nowadays I doubt they care, but back when the Battle of Alberta was good the Flames players had a personal hatred of the Oilers. I wish we could build that up again.

If Baertschi/Gaudreau is about to get run by some goon, I would advocate he does whatever he needs to to not get hurt. Not being able to leave the house for 4 years due to the light because you need to live up to some meathead hockey code, get your stick up.
|
I have to agree with this. What he did wasn't following the "norm", but Carcillo was trying to hurt him so hurt him back. The puck was already gone for quite some time anyways.
Carcillo is a AHL calibre plug trying to stay relevant.

I would trade the world to get Yakupov.
Baertschi + 1st + 3rd, they'd probably want a lot more though, rightfully so

Are you an Oilers fan pretending to be a Flames fan?

It's not cheap to avoid a hit. It's cheap to duck a hit.
The thing is you don't want to take hitting out of the game yet you want to ensure player safety. If ducking is allowed or a player is allowed to cross-check someone in the face in defense of being hit, then players will think twice before throwing a hard bodycheck. That's not what the NHL wants. That's not what I want.
.
|
So instead of ducking, if he had just skated out of the way and Carcillo had gone full tilt into the boards, then that's ok? Isn't there still a risk of injury to Carcillo?

Nope, I live in Edmonton, so I get to watch them lots. Nail Yakupov is a stud, he won't get to show it in Edmonton but if he went to a team that would actually give him ice time, everyone would recognize how talented he really is. Edmonton is ruining him by giving ice time to guys who are undeserving (Eberle).

Eberle has been their best player.
Yakupov is a PP specialist. 5-5 he is useless.

Eberle? LOL. I pretty much never say LOL, so when I do it is meaningful.
And these players are kids. Let them grow up and we'll see if they're useless.

Yes, because then Carcillo doesnt get his knees taken out from under him and go into the boards head first. If Yakupov just stepped aside then Carcillo is going into the boards with his body/shoulder and theres no real harm.
Avoiding a check is no big deal, but turtling like that is.
