Solid trade for the Habs. A 5th really isn't much.

I would have done that, but price would probably be higher for in division teams.

Alright I thought I knew what Vegas was doing but I guess I don't.
Well, okay, maybe what they're doing is just tanking the first season which isn't a completely terrible idea anyway.

I bet if Vegas picked up Dillon instead, he would've fetched more than a 5th. That's not good asset management from McPhee.

When the actual NHL team announces it, you don't really need Bob Mckenzie anymore!

They have become a new way for teams to make some trades they probably couldn't make before.
Good trade for Habs.

7 teams in 3 years for Schlemko:
Аrpon Basu @ArponBasu
Habs are David Schlemko's seventh team since 2014-15: ARI, DAL, CGY, NJD, SJS, VGK, MTL. Has never played more than 67 games in a season

You can assume this was likely a pre-arranged deal.
if someone was offering more for Dillon, Vegas would have picked him.
McPhee didn't simply pick Schlemko and then start offering him around. Trade discussions with other teams would already have taken place.

What don't you understand? They drafted like 13 or 14 defencemen and almost all of them are NHLers. So obviously they were going to have to trade like 6 of them before the season.

It is very good. This leaves me hopeful that the Flames will manage to find a good deal on a defenseman who will improve the second pairing.

Flipping Schlemko for a 5th seems like a waste of good depth, though. Actually, looking at who they have, he's 2nd pairing probably. Trading arguably your 4th best blue liner for a lottery ticket seems like a bad call to me (and probably to anyone who isn't Marc Bergevin).
It looks like they might just keep the cap anchors that aren't worth anything (Garrison, Sbisa, Stoner, Emelin etc) and run with that as their blue line, which is not a recipe for any sort of success.

I agree. McPhee could have had a really decent blue line, with legit top 4 anchors, but I don't see that anymore. I get stocking draft picks and being bad for a couple of years, but I think they needed to exhibit more balance and actually keeping a few of the better D available.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.
