Kootenay...I disagree...listen to the North American coaches of ANY sport coddle and baby their precious players...then, in contrast, listen to a UK Soccer Coach..."We were Rubbish!"..."He made a meal (mess) of his chances!"..."our goalie let in a howler!" and you can appreciate honesty and candor. Heck, in all the discussions, here at CP, on awful announcers, try the commentators for UK soccer as well. Enough bland, vanilla, head in sand, tire pumping, shills...call the damn game honestly, and criticize the obvious...WTH is wrong with NA atheletes that they can accept the glory, but, shrivel at obvious, and apparent truths.

So, no, I don't think he's a garbage coach.

I see his comments as expressing frustration on goaltending that he's probably expressed a number of times to his GM.

I actually hope they win the lottery this year (assuming we make the playoffs).

Really eh?

What knowledge do you possess that would allow you to call Bill Peters a "garbage coach"?

It's a tactic some coaches use when other forms of motivation aren't working. It sucks but having your pride called out in public is going to have an impact. Can't really throw the coach under the bus without knowing what's going on.

I could see him not being happy with Eddie Lack, he was promised a 'Legend.'

In a way I feel bad for Lack's dad, he didnt bring any of this on himself, this is all Jim Hughson's fault.

I second this.

IIRC, didn't GMs (or coaches?) from other teams state that the Canes were the smartest team in the NHL? That it seems every single one of their players are constantly in position?

That to me sounds like really strong coaching.

Eddie Lack is 4-0 in his last four starts and the Canes are 7-0-3 in their last 10, 5 points back of the last wild card spot with 2 games in hand!

The legend of Lack...

Not just in goal. Sure, Carolina's 28th in the league in even strength save percentage with a .911. But they're also below average in shooting percentage at even strength. Surprisingly, their goaltending on the PK is much better - not great, but it's 15th. If they had 15th place goaltending and finishing at evens, they'd be comfortably in a playoff spot right now.

As for the analytics, I assume you mean possession stats... They're 6th in the NHL in basic corsi percentage, but at this time of the year you have enough data to switch over to using fenwick close (the most predictive measure when you have enough of a sample to have signal outstrip noise). They're only 18th in the league at that. So it's a mixed bag, and it suggests that they're getting a larger proportion of shot attempts from the perimeter and point that are getting blocked.

So it seems the master motivator is on his way to Calgary.

Cant wait to see and hear how he motivates Johnny Gaudreau when Johnny hits a scoring slump.

We already have a 820 post thread on the topic but yeah great go ahead and bump this one.

If anything this Lack issue is a plus towards Peters. He was a horrible goalie so good on the coach for trying something, anything to get him going.

If thats what Peters has in his bags of tricks, then hes not a very good leader or motivator.

And if Lack is a horrible goalie, then its starting to look more and more that Treliving is a horrible GM.
