Yes. Awesome question.

Does anyone know if any local radio stations still broadcast Metallica?

Nice to have another country alternative to CISN. I gave them a few tries but for whatever reason wasn't drawn to the station or the music. Interesting that they compare themselves to X92, I saw virtually no similarity between these two stations.

I think that if the Calgary Peak had actually followed the same formula as the Vancouver one, they might have had a chance. Although they shared the same name and parent company, the Calgary station had a different format and always seemed like a watered down version of both Vancouver's peak and X92.9, which really made them unappealing.

On the risk of sounding like a music snob, there was nothing to pull me from the world of streaming radio, podcasts, and music subscription. And I gave it a few chances.

That's the problem with this genre of music (though it's not really a problem), the demo that listens to it doesn't look to FM radio for music. The culture of radio is gone.

I'm really amazed the business models are still workable at a local market level, with any genre.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured happened too. Annoying we have two country stations and zero modern/college/indy rock ones now, but it makes sense given that genre's base is a much younger, more internet savvy one.

It's a shame, but I get it I guess.

Yeah, but I enjoy listening to that genre, with the old and new mix, and with local news/weather/sports/traffic. That is terrestrial radio.

So yeah, I was bummed with this switch.

Thanks, what station # is that btw? Been back a couple years and I have it on FAN 960 95% of the time, so I don't really know the FM stations very well here yet. Actually finally just set all my FM presets in my car a couple months ago...which now features a country station as my #1 apparently. Gross.

Last ratings period, Vancouver's Peak station was tied for 12th out of 19 stations with a 3.4 rating.

Calgary's Peak was dead last out of 18 with a 1.5 rating. And It was last for six out of the eight ratings periods it existed, barely passing Funny 1060 twice.

Interestingly, X92.9's move toward modern rock in general rather than the focus on Alternative has paid off. They passed CJAY.

How do they define the difference between modern rock and alternative? Is there any difference?

Join our Music Advisory Panel today and let us know what you think of X92.9′s latest bag of Alternative delights.

Recent playlist looks much like what they presented 1-2 years ago.
