Starfinder RPG is arriving in August - looks really cool, but I doubt I have much time to play a campaign:
http://paizo.com/paizo/blog/tags/starfinder
Strap in and blast off! The Starfinder Roleplaying Game puts you in the role of a bold science-fantasy explorer, investigating the mysteries of a weird and magical universe as part of a starship crew. Will you delve for lost artifacts in the ruins of alien temples? Strap on rune-enhanced armor and a laser rifle to battle undead empires in fleets of bone ships, or defend colonists from a swarm of ravenous monsters? Maybe you'll hack into the mainframe of a god-run corporation, or search the stars for clues to the secret history of the universe or brand new planets to explore. Whether you're making first contact with new cultures on uncharted worlds or fighting to survive in the neon-lit back alleys of Absalom Station, you and your team will need all your wits, combat skill, and magic to make it through. But most of all, you'll need each other.
This massive 528-page hardcover rulebook is the essential centerpiece of the Starfinder Roleplaying Game, with rules for character creation, magic, gear, and more—everything you need to play Starfinder as either a player or Game Master! The next great adventure in science-fantasy roleplaying takes off here, and the Starfinder Core Rulebook is your ticket to a lifetime of adventure amid the stars!

Picked up Scythe today. The production quality on this one is through the roof.

Yokohama is fantastic, one of the best worker placement games I've ever played.
The main mechanic is that sets it apart is that you've got one 'president' worker, and a bunch of assistant workers. On a turn you can place assistants, who don't actually activate anything, and then move your president, who activates the tile he moves to; the effectiveness of this activation depends largely on the number of your assistants you have there (which you then remove from the board). You can move your president any number of spaces around the board as long as you're passing only through spaces that have your workers. So you need to be placing your assistants both to keep your movement options open as well as essentially powering up the things you want to use on future turns... but in doing so you can't help but tip off your plans to your opponents.
Some of the point scoring is a bit complicated, but the actual gameplay is fantastic.

I don't really mind the socializer. I mean, obviously play the game and pay attention to what's going on, but I don't have a problem if people want to talk about other stuff than the game itself as well.

This new game seems to be right up my alley:
https://www.zmangames.com/en/products/gaia-project/
In Gaia Project, one to four players are invited to forge their own galactic empires. Each player takes command of one of fourteen unique factions competing to colonize the galaxy. Spread your influence by claiming new planets, building structures to produce resources, developing new technologies, and uniting your planets in federations. As your empire grows and your economy becomes more diverse, you’ll unlock powerful abilities that help you gain an advantage over your competition. There are many possible actions you can take and you must determine the best way to combine those actions to build your empire.
Gaia Project features modular space sector tiles that allow for many board configurations, giving variety to your games. Construct your own galaxy.

I dreamed of going to GenCon when I was a kid. Dragon magazine was full of promotion of the convention, detailing all the D&D tournaments that were held. From what I hear, it's a very different convention than it was in the 80s and 90s. Not sure how much tabletop gaming really goes on there now.

I've been 6 years in row up till 2015, the D&D and Pathfinder halls are massive and people play all night. I am more into euro and Ameritrash boardgames and there's huge amount those games being played. It's still a convention thats dedicated only tabletop gaming. You will see the Cosplayers that don't care about anything but Cosplay but I think they go to all the conventions.
What I like about Gen Con compared to other conventions is it lets you experience all types of games, you can play test games coming soon, play in big tournaments, or just try all the games your curious about. I also like how it's giant mall for boardgames, I bring home close to three suitcases of games, not because they're cheap but you can get hard find games and pre released games that won't hit stores for a few months.

Twilight Imperium 4 was just announced, and now I have a dilemma. I have TI3 and the Shattered Empire expansion, and could probably sell them for a decent chunk of change to fund a purchase of TI4. Especially since (and I didn't know this until the recent hubbub over TI4), Shattered Empire alone goes for $150 used.
The dilemma is that: A) lots of other people are going to be unloading TI3 in the leadup to TI4's release, so there will be a glut, and B) apparently TI4 will not include some of the features and pieces from Shattered Empire.

FFG also just announced a Fall Out board game and a new spin on table top RPG's, sort of like a choose your own adventure where you build your own character and level it up through progression in quests. Basically a newbie friendly experience without a GM based in their Terrinoth fantasy setting. Looks pretty cool.

If the new version is different enough it might be worth keeping. I remember when Descent 2nd Edition came out, the first edition held its value because the new edition was so different.

FFG announced Star Wars Legion, an open space SW miniatures war game. Looks to be pretty cool, sort of a X-Wing shoot off on the ground. I imagine they will build it up to eventually include tanks/AT-ST's. MAYBE an AT-AT?
IA also confirmed that a Co-Op app is coming, if you haven't tried Descent with the app yet I highly recommend it. It isn't fool proof, but its a great way to get a great game on the table with less than the required amount of people.
