Default Men's Olympic Camp

I caught the end of Boomer going on about a camp @ COP for the Men's Olympic team. I did a quick search but could not find anything.

Does anyone know if this has been anounced? I would like to take the kids down to watch, assuming it is open to the public.

They are usually open to the public, right?

The last one was IIRC... nothing has been announced yet about this one.

I seem to recall an exhibition game in the saddle dome between Team Red and White in 2009. Won't happen this year with the floods.

Insurance issues may prevent any on-ice stuff

Team USA has said they will not be on the ice for that reason

No invites for Benn or Eberle either.

...why would they invite Methot and Green?

Who's the captain of this team? I would've said Sid at the end of the regular season, but now I don't see how it can go to anyone but Toews.

I'm surprised at the Benn and Spezza omissions.

Off hand, did anyone in 2010 who wasn't at the camp get a call? I'm thinking Bergeron, but I'm not sure.

It is often said that the Olympics is a tournament where the team that can establish a system and build chemistry the fastest has the best shot.

The Russians have their top available guys come to the WC pretty much every year, and are playing with line combos and pairings that they are going to use for the real thing. They are working to build this chemistry years in advance.

And Canada won't even have a camp?

This is why I think WC participation should be a major factor in determining who makes the Canadian Olympic team. Not the only factor, obviously, but a major one.

The World Championships should essentially be a development program for the Olympic Team. They should be using the same line combos, tactics, equipment guys, and gaining familiarity with the guys they will face in the Olympics. Heck they should have the coaches wearing flippin cardboard cut-out masks of Mike Babcock.

Not "Let's have a meeting 8 months beforehand."

Eberle is on the list.

Surprised by Benn and some of the defensemen there are very surprising and hopefully only there to provide warm bodies if they do run drills.

Methot is especially odd as he has no business being within 1000 miles of a Team Canada Olympic team.
