Good show overall. Chance the Rapper, wow. What a treat for hip hop to have ATCQ and Chance back to back months. Both being the best musical guests this year.
A decent episode, I thought. The Christmas miracle witness hearing was super, McKinnon at her best. Gay robots skit was absolutely hilarious.
As an observation; I don't quite understand the logic of bringing mediocre actors like Zamata and Villasenor but practically not using them at all. I do get addressing the "lack of diversification" accusation from some media, but this is counterproductive. Having them in the cast and not using them looks kinda worse than not having them.

SNL is known to operate like a meritocracy. If someone wants guaranteed airtime, he/she needs to write the sketch that makes it on air. Another way to get air time is to work with staff writers and other cast members to collaborate/develop ideas. It's always the toughest on the new featured players since writers are less likely to write for them. Ideas from new featured players are also more likely to be shot down. Just based on airtime this season, I don't expect Villasenor to be brought back next year. Mikey Day on the other hand has impressed me and I think will become a regular cast member when he completes his obligatory two years as a featured player. Anyone interested in the inner workings of SNL should read that Jay Mohr book.
Yeah, it's a good book. My point is more about the logic (or absence of it). Why hire anyone for the coveted show and then NOT use them? If they don't like Zamata enough to give her more time, why is she still there after a full season? I don't like her much but at the same time, there was not much there to judge her work by... Looks like the same thing is happening with Villsenor.

Villasenor was hired for her many impersonations - they could use that in Update or celebrity game shows.
Zamata is always in the background or playing the straight-man. I can't recall a character or impactful moment from her. Seems Leslie Jones exploded while she is still trying to find her way.

Why would you point out they were gay? You could have just said the robot skit...come on, this is 2016.

P.S. I didn't see green text, so I assumed you're serious. Although you did say "it's 2016", which suggests otherwise. But, just in case, you do know that's the official name of the sketch, right?

I still laugh whenever I think of Bryant's name in that sketch: Chubbina Fatzarelli. Lol. The Karate Kid digital short was funny too.
I'm still an ep behind, thought the Cena episode was great! I'd love to see him come back and host. I've already watched the entire episode twice, which is a sure sign I really liked it. Even the monologue was good, which I usually FF through because it almost always devolves into some musical number. Poking fun at the age old "wrestlers getting their in-ring monologues interrupted by challengers" bit cracked up this former longtime WWF fan.
