If you keep it within 10% of the posted limit you are unlikely to be bothered. Upper edge seems to be about 15%,

117 in a 100 zone is a bit too fast.

That is not easy, and I don't own a fast vehicle.

Interested in getting a laser jammer, any recommendation of what to buy or where to get it from?

From the budget speech yesterday and the 35% traffic fine increase, is there any doubt that most traffic tickets are just a form of tax? Since they are a form of tax, we should be entitled to do tax planning to mitigate them.

Anyone else plan on doing this based on the increase set to happen? Any suggestions on best bang for your buck?
Better bet is to get a laser jammer and run that instead. Coupled with a GPS that has the traffic camera locations as points of interest and you're set.

Start your own thread dedicated driving the speed limit. The spirit of this thread is driving over the speed limit and how to avoid being penalized for it.

I know you said laser jammer and not radar jammer but I don't care.

The spirit of the thread seems to be how to avoid getting speeding tickets and the hardware/software used to achieve this goal.

One way is to go the speed limit.

I dunno, it sounds like both of you have a lead foot. ;p Nearly $1000 in fines in 14-ish months? Wow!

It's been an expensive year. He taught me how to drive which might explain my poor speeding habits.

Coming back to Calgary after a year overseas I was blown away at how fast people drive here. It is nuts. It's almost impossible to drive the speed limit on roads like Deerfoot (in the right lane).

The best ticket avoidance is paying attention to spots they typically set up traps and look for newer domestic models parked on the roadside. Also keep a mental catalog of vehicles they use for ghost cars and keep an eye out for them.

It used to be when I lived in Calgary that 90% of CPS vehicles had licence plates that started with the same first three letters (numbers?).

Agreed. Radar detector might help to supplement if you go to an area you're not familiar with or just tired and miss a quick scan, but doing this is the best probably.

... And also never to speed through playground, school and construction zones.

I've heard that theory before, but I I think it's no longer true. Maybe it was once, but not anymore. I've seen CPS with regular license plates and those license plates that look like leased or rental vehicle numbers.

Got Pulled over on Crowchild for traveling at 109 in a 90km/h zone......

Was literally driving with the flow of traffic.. Such BS

With the budget cuts looming expect cops to become tax collectors with a gun

Did you have difficulty reading the title of the thread?
it's two words: Radar detectors

we're not looking for alternatives

There is nothing you can do with the new style photo besides look for the box on the roof. They are ultra low power so you don't pick them up until too late and they also use a band you'll encounter all over the city and also around cars with adaptive cruise and collision detection so you'll be getting falses near constantly.
