Default 2 Day CPHL Trade Deadline Spectacular

With the unprecedented 2 Day CPHL Trade Deadline Spectactular ending on March 31st , your CPHL media specialists Drury18 and Pierre “Monster” McGuire are here to bring you a recap on all the trades as they happen. Or as we find out.

The first day of the Trade Deadline has been quiet with only a handful of very minor trades to report:

To Anaheim:
Sean Bergenheim
$1.27 Cheese

To San Jose:
2016 4th Round Pick (ANA)

Analysis: Bergenheim scored 13 points in 79 games with San Jose but struggled to get off the 4th line all season. As a pending UFA, Anaheim picks up a cheap rental for their playoff run while San Jose gets a late round pick and an open roster spot to bring up some youth.

To Minnesota:
Erik Cole
$0.88 Cheese

To Chicago:
2016 2nd Round Draft Pick (Winnipeg) (Boston)

Analysis: A surprisingly high price paid by Minnesota to acquire Cole who has 21G and 28A in 79 games. The 36 year old is a pending UFA at the end of this season and was acquired by Chicago via UFA for a bargain basement price as he is no longer active in the NHL. Minnesota continues to get deeper in preparation for what they hope is a long playoff run. We can only imagine that Chicago is sitting somewhere laughing over the fact he turned a cheap UFA into a 2nd round pick.

To Colorado:
Mike Zalewski

To Washington:
Freedom from a Canuck player on the roster
Use of the San Jose Sharks pressure washer for Zalewski’s stall

Analysis: Zalewski is an undrafted Winger currently with the Utica Comets who just returned from a lengthy injury. Not really sure what Colorado was thinking with this one.

To San Jose:
Tomas Kopecky

To Colorado:
2016 4th Round Pick (SJ)

Anaylsis: Wait, Colorado made two trades in one day? That doubles his trade total all year. I guess this is the early surprise of the CPHL Trade Deadline. Sharks acquire an insurance depth guy for their playoff run who is a UFA at year’s end and currently playing in Europe. Colorado gets a mid round pick and a freed up AHL roster spot.

To Calgary:
Ben Lovejoy
$6.27M Cheese

To Montreal:
2016 2nd Round Pick (ANA)

Analysis: Calgary adds another aging but producing defenceman to their roster. With 1G, 13A in 75 games with Montreal, Lovejoy becomes the #2 Defenceman on the Flames blueline, but is a pending UFA at the end of the season. With the Flames not playoff bound, it appears Lovejoy has become part of the rebuild plan.

To Dallas:
John Michael Liles
$3.60M Cheese

To Montreal:
2017 4th Round Pick (DAL)

Analysis: Dallas adds some rental defensive depth to a pretty impressive blueline.

Great post!
To clarify the pick in the Cole deal is Boston's (last of the 2nd). For some reason the team assignment of picks is wrong in the transaction history, but correct on GM pages.

*UPDATE*

Get your Folgers, thaw the Dempsters, throw'er in the toaster. Get ready for a tepid CPHL Trade Deadline filled with lowballs, highballs, and no balls. The trade deadline is a mere 26 hours away and if you're not wearing pajama pants with three day stubble and coffee breath that can stop a Mack truck, you're doing it wrong, GMs.

Trade talks seem to be on respiratory aid across the league, but we're optimistic more GM's will engage in trade talks before half the league takes off to do boring things like give their spouse, kids and grandmas their attention.

Good luck out there, GMs. Salute.

Reports out of New York this morning suggest there is a big deal about to go down for the Isles. Hearing both Atkinson and Staal are packing up their stalls.

Will we see our first blockbuster trade deadline deal finally?

Sounds like Simmonds is on the move out of Philly. Deal is being faxed into CPHL Head Office for processing. More details coming.

Philly insider @CPHL_ElliottePhriedman has confirmed:

To Toronto:
Wayne Simmonds (72OV)

To Philly:
Mikkel Boedker (70OV)
Alex Burrows (66OV)
2016 3rd (TOR)
Some jalepeno havarti

We were super excited to originally get Simmonds, but he's proven useless while in Philly, unable to play with the top line. He's also in the top 5 for CPHL penalty minutes, making the team work harder on the PK. This one was a huge factor, as we noticed his stats for PIM (4th in the NHL) have more than doubled this year over last year. He's 3nd in CPHL goals, so Toronto gets the BPA, for sure. But we're very afraid that his already low discipline rating of 64 drops even more next year, becoming even more of a liability.
We were excited about getting him, and wish it had worked out, but wish him all the best in Toronto.

Burrows comes in as playoff insurance. He's a bum...there's no sugar coating it at all. But his ability to play any forward position means we have post season injury coverage if needed. He's strictly a rental and we have no intention of gridding him.

From our viewpoint, Mikkel Boedker is the key to this trade. Although he gets little love on this board, GM JonDuke is a big fan and still thinks there's plenty of potential. He's on the verge of having a career year and 7 points away from doubling his last seasons' point total. Even if he gets just a small raise in rating, his $2.5 x 3 year contract will be a steal. What remains to be seen is what Colorado does with him in the off season. Either way, we're excited to follow his progress and hope he surpasses what most people believe he's capable of.

We'll experiment with him on the top line for now to see if there's any chemistry. Looking forward, Philly brass expect Brayden Schenn to get a decent re-rate, and we expect Bodeker to ultimately slot in on the 3rd line.

Big thanks to Devo for the multiple back and forths, and being so patient with me on this one.

@CPHLDreger - Many moves could happen today, or no moves could happen today. There could also be a medium number of moves.

Analysis: Jalepeno Havarti is a fine Scandinavian cheese to accompany a good young Scandinavian player. A nice rich and buttery flavour with the zesty heat of jalepenos. A definite upgrade over your regular old mouldy cheese being thrown around in other deals.

*UPDATE*

Oilers' GM Pierre McGuire was overheard whispering to himself at one of the low urinals in Rectall Place. The words were not fully audible, but it is believed Artem Anisimov's name was mentioned between a number of expletives, accoding to sources.

It is no secret Anisimov has had his struggles scoring in Edmonton, but with the year he's having in the NHL, a sizable re-rate and a very friendly contract are sure to attract buyers.

GM McGuire has expressed a need to get deeper at RW and will most likely be looking for a RWer of equal talent in return.

Stay turnt, America.

@CPHLDarrenDreger 15m - Hearing LA is in talks to acquire Iginla and that they are also in the process of asking Miikka Kiprusoff to come out of retirement for the stretch run

@CPHLEllioteFriedman 14m - Hearing reports that @CPHLDarrenDreger is a moron

@CPHLEllioteFriedman 13m - LA does seem to be in the market to boost their bottom pairing though, sounds like GM has been working the phones while sipping on a latte

I've always been a huge fan of Simmonds. God knows I've tried many times to acquire him and I'm very pleased that I finally got him.

After trading Vrbata for Burrows and a 3rd, this basically means I've flipped Boedker and a couple of games of Vrbata for Simmonds, which works for me ... I think Simmonds and Boedker are pretty similar in terms of production, with Simmonds obviously being the better goalscorer. Hopefully he'll score a few on a line with Bergeron! Sad to give up Boedker, who did really well on my team too, but I guess you have to give up quality in order to get quality.

Thanks to JonDuke for the talks. Very happy we managed to get this done ahead of the deadline!

*BREAKING TRADE*

The Vancouver Canucks have given the San Jose Sharks Wood, literally.

GM CMPunk has acquired D David Musil in exchange for D Kyle Wood.

Analysis: Not much to see here folks. A swap of decent prospects. Carry on.

If I wasn't lacking the Y chromosome acquiring a 6'5", 209lb scoring Defenceman would probably allowed me to have my own.

Musil never turned out like I expected. Nothing like his Dad. Wood looks to have a decent chance with Arizona and recently signed with them.
