Pretty honest reflection by Ferland - he has really come along way in the last three years. This article really speaks volumes as well to Flames coaching staff and management (especially Hartley and Burke) for not hesitating to help a struggling young player rather than throw him under the bus. Well done Micheal, well done.

One of my favourites, both on and off the ice.

Crazy to think how low he must have been, compared to where he is now on the top line with Gaudreau and Monahan. Such a unique skillset on the ice as well.

Slowly growing into a massive role on the Flames, if you asked me at the beginning of the year if I thought he would have been a consistent threat on the top line. I would have probably scoffed at the idea. Fantastic story and a real beauty we have on our team.

Also props to the Flames for keeping him heading off to rehab at the time under wraps. I don't recall anything or anyone really saying anything about it.

Awesome that he had the strength to ask for help, and that his bosses got him the help. It would have been very easy to cut him, or if this was an office job to get rid of him. It's really nice to see them give him the support to get his life on track. I hope this allows others to ask for help, and others to help them

Troy Ward was a huge part of Ferlund turning it around as was Flames management, Burkes been around a long time and seen this before and yeah Hartley did great with him.

Ferlund reminds me a Little of Chris Simon but with a higher ceiling.

I predict we see a hell of a playoffs from him and next year 30 goals.

What a beauty he is.

Nice to see a kid develop into the player you knew he had the potential to be. Good to see him prove his doubters wrong

It's so gratifying to see a player like Ferland begin to fulfill his potential. Stories like this make me proud to be a Flames fan.

Cant wait to see playoff Ferly back!

Micheal is one of the most genuine guys there is. There is nobody who deserves the personal and professional success more than him.

I think it was a meaningful coincidence that back in August, 2012 when we met I was myself just passing 14 years sober.

I have had a unique perspective watching Ferland the kid prospect in legal trouble become Ferland the father and first-line contributor. All I can say is he is a great person who in my opinion still has plenty more to offer both on and off the ice.

He has welcomed me into his family and been very kind to mine. So no question he is the favorite player in our house and March 27 is marked on the calendar for a little celebration for three years and counting.

I expect as he continues to find his voice he will continue to do more and more interviews and community service related to alcohol addictions which just makes it more and more easy to love the guy and wish him the very best.

So happy for him. So many kids aren't able to put it together, for whatever reason.

I seem to recall Brian McGratton was helping be an influence on his sobriety.
