We ported our home number to my wife's cell, no problem.

Have been on ooma and really like it. We were on Shaw and I just couldn't get my head around the cost especially with the different cell phone plans out there. I personally don't like cell phones near my brain but that is another conversation...

$4.18 per month is what we pay after the initial purchase from Costco of the box. the box sits in the basement and everything works as expected. I will also add that the app is awesome! when there is voice mail, you get it on your mobile device and can listen to it as easy as if you were at home. The $4.18 is taxes, 911 payment, and something else that I can't remember right now. also ported our old number over to ooma from shaw. when I called to cancel shaw, the guy couldn't believe the price; I told him that if he could match the $4.18 all in for phone I would stay with shaw.

very happy with the ooma.

I'm surprised so many people still have home phones.

My parents had one when I lived there, but I haven't had one since I moved out. Neither has my wife.

Nor my kids, still have a landline because of my wife's business. She wants some separation between personal and work. Plus it's a business expense. Really only know a couple of people that have landlines at home anymore. Mostly people who live on acreages and have spotty cell coverage.

Still have not found a reliable, affordable alternative for home alarm system. It is the only reason we keep it.
We are ~$250/year for home phone/monitoring. I'd be happy to find monitoring not tied to phone line for less.
