Default Rogers world's largest commitment to live sports broadcasting in 4K

It looks like Rogers is taking 4K TV seriously and maybe if you are looking for a new TV, 4K may be a good choice. Just too bad for us out west, it isn't Shaw.

Quote:
Launches 4K TV and 4K set top box; will broadcast over 100 live sporting events in 4K including every 2016 Toronto Blue Jays™ home game and over 20 marquee NHL games
Introduces Rogers IgniteTM Gigabit Internet for the best 4K streaming experience to entire cable footprint in 2016
Partners with Netflix to deliver premium 4K streaming experience and secures over 100 hours of 4K content on shomi™

You might think that Japan, South Korea or the US would be the most enthusiastic about 4K live sports, but nope: right now, that distinction goes to Canada. The country's largest cable firm, Rogers, has unveiled a 4K strategy that reportedly includes the "world's largest" support for 4K live sports with high dynamic range (HDR) color. Every 2016 home game for the Toronto Blue Jays (which Rogers owns) will air in 4K with HDR, while more than 20 "marquee" NHL games will also display in 4K. If you're not fond of baseball or hockey, you'll be glad to know that 4K shows from Netflix and Shomi will be part of the mix. While this content won't start arriving until next year (starting with a Canadiens/Maple Leafs hockey match in January), it's at least on the cards.

Are those 20 ''marquee'' hockey games Leaf games? Seeing as to how Rogers own the Blue Jays and the Leafs are in Toronto...I'll bet we get to enjoy watching that sweet rebuilding Leaf's team for the majority

They can't even figure out how to broadcast a preseason game. Do we need 20 more Leafs games on 4k every year?

What's better than watching the Leafs fail in 1080p?

Watching the Leafs fail in 4k.

Looks like those trade deadline deals are paying off... I couldn't even guess how much unexpected revenue that team has brought in for Rogers in the past 6 months.

It's easy to criticize Rogers, but this awesome.... Nevermind the 4k commitment, this is the first gigabit internet service in Canada (excluding the small towns that built their own).

The price is laughable, but I'd pay it for 1000mbps down/50 up.

EDIT: Had no idea Bell also announced gigabit in August.

Either way, hopefully Shaw's November announcements are similar in nature....

What is the price? $150 for 1000mbps down/50mbps up? Seems fair enough if it is actually unlimited.
