Its encouraging. I feel even if he just practices with the team for a week or so its an experience that prepares him for a playing call up.
Its a positive showing from a promising prospect.

Kudos to Moms!
sure hope he plays; would kinda suck to fly all the way from Sweden to Winnipeg and not see your son play

Poor mom, of all places she has to fly to...Winnipeg. I'd let him play just for that.

I totally agree with your statement. For all we know, that poster could have been Mark Spector posting on this board under an anonymous name. Just like the fabricated story of Johnny on Sportsnet.
If Wideman has an illness or an injury for tomorrow's game, I think the league will start an investigation to ensure that the Flames didn't abuse the emergency call up. I think that they could dress all 7 d-man if Hamilton is ready to go and play Wideman as a fourth line winger replacing Chaisson.

Color me pleasantly surprised on this call up. Whether he plays or not.

To be clear, I mean no impunity toward the poster. He was good enough to share information that he heard at a STH invitation-only event, for which I am grateful. I have a problem with the reporter he described at the event as having a "serious, brutally obvious dislike" for Dennis Wideman.

Since Wideman has been a defenceman his whole career, I'm sure the league wouldn't allow that.

They could sit Chiasson, play Engelland as a winger and put both Wideman and Andersonn on. Engelland has played wing before, so no conspiracy.
Of course, then Wideman can play up a lot and Engelland will cover his spot, like a good winger.

It's interesting how a rumour, and now a rumour from a reporter who typically will say the worst about the flames to drive traffic is considered impeachable because it fits a pre-existing narrative that they believe.
We can do better then this.

A veteran only a year and a half removed from a 50 point season, with a shot to earn one last contract in the NHL with strong play down the stretch?
I'm good with that as an injury fill in.
Let's see what Wideman can bring

Seen enough in the last 4+ years thank you.
Let's see what a second round pick with a ton of potential has; could be our next Brodie.

Do you remember what Tomas Kaberle was like at the end of his career? That's pretty much where Wideman is now. It doesn't matter how good you were, if you currently hurt the team far more than you help, you should probably sit.
Seriously, Kaberle was horrible at the end. Just mailing in every game.

Please be joking...Wideman got points playing on a team playing pond hockey and no system.
He was bad then and is worse now.

Hey, i'm all for Rasmus getting into the lineup, but he's not set up to succeed if you throw him in and expect him to play 20 minutes.
That's Oilers style career destroying development tactic. Hell, half of you are really outspoken on how much of a trainwreck the Oilers are for doing that.
So why do you want to put Rasmus in that position?
You shelter Rasmus' minutes. You play the veteran and challenge him to perform and eat up minutes with smart hockey.

Yeah, but Wideman shouldn't be getting 20 minutes a night either. You have to shelter Wideman just as much as Andersson.
I'll take Wideman's experience in the playoffs in a sheltered role, but that's about the only advantage he has on Andersson at this point, and I haven't even see Andersson play more than a period or two.

Sneaking suspicion Andersson plays in Winnipeg.
Team flew his "Mor" to the Manitoba capital instead of Calgary where they have a three game home stand coming up.

Ideally you'd shelter both, but one of them will get 20 minutes next game.
It goes to the veteran first.

Giordano-Brodie 25+ mins
Bartkowski-Engelland 22 mins
Andersson-Wideman 13 mins.
No need to give him any more than that, and this is a worst case scenario. Hamilton will probably be back next game and it would be
Giordano-Hamilton
Brodie-Engelland
Bartkowski-Wideman
