Airdrie man wins the lottery for the 5th time.
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/calgary/sto...y-airdrie.html
Something seems fishy to me but the courts didn't find anything wrong so i guess he's just a realy lucky person
19 million total winnings and now he's going to sue WLC for investigating his 5th prize of 17 million.
He claims it caused him mental anguish...i wish i had that sort of mental anguish.

Me too. Sounds very weird. I think it's sad that he's suing and claiming mental anguish. He's not hard up, clearly. 5 huge prizes in 5 years?

With his winnings he probably just purchases another 15 000 tickets.

I heard about this guy on the news this morning. They were interviewing him and he kept saying "I never get excited when I win" or something like that. Definitley sounds strange. Who wins that many big prizes numerous times? It defies all odds.

No doubt, if he thinks that 5 wins including a 17 mil isn't out of the ordinary, I don't imagine he could survive with the "luck" that the other 33 million and change people in Canada have.
I hope he sues and fails and it costs him 17 million in court costs.

I suppose that's not that out of the ordinary if the guy buys 100 tickets per week. That's ridiculous.

Very fishy. What are the odds of winning the lottery five times?
Does this man sell tickets? There were cases in Ontario where vendors were stealing winning tickets from customers.

When I read the article on the train this morning I thought something was fishy too.
The big reason the guy is upset is not because the WCLC investigated him, but because they refused to pay out because someone claimed that part of the jackpot was his because they were part of a group buy.
The weird thing was that the guy who claimed this was the brother in law of the owner of the place where the guy bought the winning ticket.
It all sounds a little fishy to me, but what are you gonna do?

Or is he a middle man for one of these ticket stealing retailers seeing as they've come under fire in BC and Ontario?
I know that they heavily screen any retailer who has won a major lotto prize these days.

Gets real fishy when it turns out that someone disputing it was related to the owner of the kiosk. Then he suddenly dropped the claim? Like, why? Maybe to stop an investigation into the kiosk?
edit - beaten by Shantz, but also to add that it's kinda weird that the owner throws her bro-in-law under the bus with comments about how he has problems.

When this article first broke on the Calgary Herald website, some of the reader comments were pretty funny. One guy was saying how everyone should touch this man's robes in order to gain some luck. Other's wanted to eat him to gain his good fortune LOL.

I can see why this guy's pissed. If you give him the benefit of the doubt, and just accept that he's won 5 times, then you have to understand where he's coming from.
If I had $17M owed to me and they held off paying for even a month, that interest adds up VERY fast.
Example: In a high interest savings account, (which is actually quite low,) you get about .75%/annum. /12 = .0625% per month. $17M * .0625% is $10,625.00 in interest each month!!

A third of the world starves while people in North America go through "mental anguish" over waiting longer to collect 17 million....sigh......

That's a plausible theory.
Even if you buy hundreds of tickets a week, the chances of winning five times are still miniscule.

I would like to see a statiscian come up with the numbers to see the odds of this happening. I'm sure the dude buys thousands of tickets, but even so, the probability to win five times on prizes all over $50,000 has got to be astronimical.
