Under Darryl Sutter who I'd say had a good defensive system he was one of the worst goalies statistically in the NHL dude.
Those are facts.

Vladar was not good. Still can't recompose himself after a poor play. He has the odd outstanding game and then craps the bed in the next ones.
Oh well...someone wanted this. Depressing.

Haha
They only traded away UFA's that weren't going to re-sign, you realize that right?
Could have kept them I guess, still missed the playoffs, then had the team you see right now next season but without the 15 pieces for the rebuild in the fold.

I actually think with a new goalie coach he can be much better and might improve drastically.

Who wants to pay $$ for years on end to see a time get beat by 4-5 goals a night? If Kipper didn't come along how would that last rebuild have worked out? My wife was commenting on all the empty seats tonight in the latter half of the game. I'm not trying to be dramatic, but I remember the dark times too well I guess. Anyway, I'm grateful to have a forum like CP in times like these at least.

Pretty rough stretch of games. I think the “educated” hockey market hypothesis that will still show up to games is going to be tested pretty hard. Not surprising when a team has two top four dmen on it though.

Its not all his fault obviously but this is a huge opportunity for Vladar and probably Wolf too...you should be getting quite a bit of work now show what you can do.
Tonight was a poor performance from Vladar...didn't cost them the game but he was poor IMO.

I think hiring a goalie coach to work on a mid level backup is an over reaction. Vladar just isnt that good

Even if that is true how does it explain the difference in 6th worst for Vladar out of 93 goalies and 4th best for Markstrom?

It’s crazy that a non playoff team trading UFA’s who turned down extensions is even considered selling. Everywhere else in the league but Murrayville it’s just common sense
They did everything in their power to not sell

I think judging any goalie will be pretty tough over the rest of the season. I’ll be surprised if Markstrom keeps a .900 or higher.

Unfortunately, we are already seeing a drop in ticket sales and I fear that will grow to some scary levels if we aren’t careful

Depends on your perspective, I guess.
Flames could have been down by 2 goals after first period.
He was spectacular in the first.

I wonder if there is a possibility that Conroy could help out Waddell and take a first or a good prospect off his hands along with Orlov this summer. The Canes have 31 million dollars and the need to sign or let walk the following forwards
Terravainen
Guentzel
Necas
Drury
Jarvis
Martinook
Noesen
Suspect signing the first 5 forwards is definitely more of a priority than keeping Orlov
On the backend they need to sign or let go
Skjei
Pesce
Chatfield
I feel like all 3 of those dmen are higher priorities than Orlov. Seems impossible to sign the 6 forwards and the 3 dmen for under 31 million.
Orlov at almost 8 million for one year would help stabalize the backend.

Maybe true but when that goalie plays 20 games that can be the difference between making the playoffs or not.
I think Vladar has all the tools but can't put it together. Would rather they get rid of him or hire an experienced goalie coach to work with him.
I know some people don't believe goalie coaches matter but I think they can help.

Tanev was the glue for this team defensively. Same thing happened when he went down at the tail end of the Dallas series. And that was with Hanifin.
Hopefully one or two of the dmen acquired surprise and push for a spot but they need at least a practice or two.

Eh, I don’t think there are really any scary levels when there is a new arena on the way and a healthy franchise valuation to go with it. They’ll need to slash ticket prices to fill the dome.
