Kraken Kraken fan spots cancer on Canucks Equipment Manager's neck

This is a pretty good story, and for this one time the Canucks did something good.

In a surprise move at the New Year's day game in Seattle, the Vancouver Canucks and the Seattle Kraken announced a joint $10,000 fund to go toward Nadia Popovici's medical training after she alerted Canucks staffer Brian Hamilton to a malignant melanoma on his neck

I was 18 reading a readers digest once and saw some pictures of different moles. The one that said melanoma looked like mine. I told my dad and he said I was being crazy. My mom said ask your doctor. Long story short I had a biopsy and it was melanoma. Luckily stage 1. That was 20 years ago.

Saw on Twitter that the next and kraken have set up a $10k scholarship for the aspiring doctor.

Despite this, Vancouver is still no good

YES! Canucks didn't even match the donation, shame. They should've donate $50k it could've been life saving.

Thats not how billionaires work. They don't actually give a ####. They gave 5000 each. Pennies on the dollar barely half a year at any higher end institue for a part semester not even a full semester. Obviously she has a gift as I know many doctors and specialists based on my career who have told me that's a gift regardless of schooling.

What a joke just for pr. We need to stopped being 8mpressed by these hollow elite moves.

They pay echl players 7 times more than this that don't contribute #### to society.

In the grand scheme 5000 a piece is a joke and purely #### for both sides IMO.

At the end of the day to us serfs 10000 seems like a lot so .... the PR team did there job without any actually impact . Ya she'll be a doctor perhaps but 10000 for a 200000+ loan won't effect much for society. But it's 1/ cheaper than just the ads thw run a half week on TV.

Pro sports donating to charities are a ####ing joke. Even our dear Flames have only ever put 30% of total earnings
Back into the community since the beginning of the franchise. The rest paid to "volunteers " and put into a reserve. The reserve rarely if ever sees the community. It's there to cover costs and pay staff if they fold. Calgary in particular is a joke.

The national average is 73% being donated to charity's.. and the Canucks actually lead this statically in Canada for any charity in Canada.

Pro sports contribute #### to the community in by large and it's just free advertising that costs them mere fractions vs traditional media hell the players are usually contracted to do.so so they don't even have to be stars just players to get the media and public swooning for them at events they don't even really give much too..
So when people swoon but the team does so much for the community! No.... they actually don't. They usually keep 70 to 80 percent of the money to run their "pr wing" alive and well....

The promo is usually " get to meet the players and autograph for free " except that's not the case . You isually pay a gate fee or entrance fee at the gate. That's just a 80 to 70 percent pro rated meet and greet fee that the E.g. Flames foundation gets to keep.

If each club donated $50k it would be a drop in the bucket.

10 grand what a joke.

Do you know what the young lady has today that she didn't have the other day? $10K towards her education. Can we just not enjoy the story about a nice thing instead of ####ting on people every time.

Wow, you're a real ####ing hero with other peoples' money.

It was a gift. Generosity. A reward for an act that helped a person. They don't have an obligation to pay her entire tuition.

You're viewpoint is beyond bitter - it's ####ed up.

Yeah totally.. she mentioned in an interview that they don't know what the money means to her. It's a big deal.. yeah it could be more but wow

Also what a great trainer.. even though he's on the canucks he seems like a very likeable guy. Can't get enough of this story! Especially that due to the pandemic I think alot of people have been letting health things slide not seeing doctors, etc (me included)

Wow, that's a great story for both Nadia Popovici and Brian Hamilton. $10K to go towards med school is nothing much but still a heck of a lot of money just for saving someone's life!
