Default Don't let the bedbugs bite...

So the girlfriend while staying over has been getting some bites. Small, nothing too crazy. Probably started about a month or two ago.

Just tonight my roommate found a nice little infestation in his mattress, and sprayed the out of it with insecticide. My mattress isn't affected, but we've identified the problem, and that's the main thing. The big question was where they came from. I've only bought new things, and he 'says' he hasn't gotten anything from anyone else recently. Also said that they were fairly new, which is true, because a month ago, they weren't here.

Anyone else had a problem with them before? Recommended actions? We're going to vacuum the basement suite and maybe get some more pesticides. Wash sheets and common things of course. From there I don't know where to go.

And no, the girlfriend hasn't been sleeping in his room. Nice try CP.

No first-hand experience with them, but a friend of mine had them and apparently they can be really difficult to get rid of for good. They basically had to move out of their apartment because of it and had to replace a lot of their furniture.

This was a few years ago but she still freaks out about them and won't stay in a hotel until she has thoroughly checked through reviews of the place to make sure they haven't had bedbug problems.

Not to freak you out or anything, this girl is often a bit neurotic about such things.

No big deal, I hear a lot of people are into that kind of thing. Just don't break the skin or she'll probably smack you.

Just look along your mattress and boxsprings for dark clusters of little 'mites'. If so, you know you have them. Most people don't have them Matty.

If it was winter the easiest way would be take the mattresses and everything else outside for a few hours. Few bugs can take the freeze.

Maybe if you still get a really cold night you could try it. It's a good thing to do regurarly anyway.

I remember I didn't take a shower after a game and went home and slept in my sisters bed when I was younger. It was awesome! It stunk to high heaven.

For the people wondering about incest, it's ok, he's from Alabama.

Good luck. Those things are supposed to be VERY hard to get rid of.

I worked with a guy who had them and it was a huge ordeal for him and his landlord. He had to be out of the house for 2 days while it was being fumigated and he had to dispose of several things like clothes, sheets etc.

That’s quite a funny article. Urban enviro-hippy chick struggles with bed bugs for weeks/months in that article to no avail, until she hires an exterminator on page 5 and the problem is solved with two visits; an initial fumigation and a followup. She had also read and researched online how difficult an infestation was to control, and yet she persisted with her vacuuming, spreading special dirt, etc. I think she liked the attention, to be quite honest.

I watched the show "terminator" and in one episode, they said spraying the hack out of it will only make them migrate to other areas in the house. and once the spray's effect wears out, they will move back in. But now potentially they could have laid eggs on the other stuff.

They had to completely seal the house, and kill them with heat.

Hire a professional, they're hard to get rid of on your own, and can hide anywhere. (including light sockets, screw holes, base boards, etc.

So let me get this straight. Your GF has been getting bit but you have not. Your mattress isn't affected but your roommates is. This is not rocket science dude. My recommended action is to toss both your roommate and his mattress out.
