That picture is gold!!!..... (get it? badumbum...)

Ranchman's is a weird place. Not because of this bizarre ass bring your dog to drink day policy, but because nothing looks like there was any thought put into its construction. It looks like a very random collection of building supplies and units kind of mashed together haphazardly. It looks like when they start one renovation, they don't take down the old one, just kind of build beside it with a different piece. Then there's a bobsleigh (yes I know why but that doesn't mean it should be there), and inside is kind of jumbled a bit too. And then there's the clientèle... which now includes dogs because I guess we needed a broader mix of creatures in there...

They seem like a place that just can't say no. Got a suggestion? We'll take it. Dogs? Yup! New supply closet? No prob! Slap er on the side of the roof.

edit: even its location is kind of weird now that I think about it..

Haha great pic, Rerun. I'm fine with the policy at Ranchman's as I think it kind of suits the vibe they have going on. I don't even like dogs for the most part, but I can see how this would be fun for people that do. I bet it would make for a novel lunch to have your dog with you. Definitely wouldn't want to see this everywhere but since there is no chance of that happening I don't see the big deal of one or a few restaurants opening their patios to dogs. I personally wouldn't go, but I can't see them doing this at restaurants I like anyway.

The real issue here is leg-humping.

If the dog's just well behaved & chilling out like it looks like Rerun's dog is there, then I don't have a problem with it. But if a lot of the dogs just become the dog version of misbehaved 6 year olds at a restaurant (e.g. barking, begging everyone for food, etc), then yes I have a problem with it.

No way in hell would I want my gf's family's dogs in a place like that, they can't shut up or sit still to save their life. All depends on the dog I suppose, or if the owner is smart enough to realize if their dog is capable of handling that type of setting or not.

I could just totally see the stupid dog owners ruining this for the responsible dog owners, guess we'll see how it plays out.

That's usually the way it goes on every dog related issue.

My dog is calm and well trained but is highly food motivated and a giant mooch. He uses his good looks on people to get treats and we've never been able to condition him out of it, so I would probably avoid taking him to an establishment that serves food... For my own and others sanity.

Golden Retrievers are always happy..
I can put the shades on him for a little bit but after a short time he paws them off.

It was good. We (my wife and I) had a few beers (well I had the few beers, my wife only had one drink) and we ordered chicken wings and veggies which were actually surprisingly tasty.

There were probably 8 dogs there including one other Golden and a huge Great Dane. No problems whatsoever between the dogs or between human patrons either.

When you first arrive you have to show proof of a current rabies vaccination (for the dog that is.. ) and then they seat you at a table. Each table has a post beside it (bolted to the patio deck) where you can tie your dog's leash to if you want. The waitresses aren't allowed to pet the dogs for sanitary reasons, but they all seem to like them. They bring each dog a dish of water in a throw-away bowl.

It was nice... relaxing. Nice to be able to go out for a beer or two and not feel guilty about leaving your dog locked up at home. No dogs are allowed after 9 pm.
