It happened with Byron, it happened with Schlemko and it's probably going to happen again.

Kulak was given 20 games with the Flames. He didn't impress. I think this is a case of fans overrating prospects. Saying that, he'll get another chance to impress in camp next season.

Byron was only a mistake because Kassian decided to go out, have too much fun and get into an accident the morning after Byron was waived. It was a calculated risk that Treliving read perfectly, but his lack of ESP ended up costing us Byron. That poster blaming Treliving for that is more of a misunderstanding of the situation than anything has done.

Even IF Byron, Schlemko and Kulak were on this team, we would be no better. Paranoia. Every GM makes mistakes, it is impossible not to. To sit and stew about these 3 guys is simply ridiculous.

I'm glad Treliving used the cap space to go and get Hamilton. Schlemko was given money and term as a UFA (4 yrs 2.1 AAV). Do not want for that term. Especially with the crop of dmen the flames are hoping make the step (as it has been stated Kulak was given the chance and didn't seize it).
Anyways, did Phillips sign any sort of AHL deal or is he just around the team for pro experience/exposure?

Phillips is signed to an Amateur try out. Doesn't preclude him from playing any games. That being said, I doubt he gets in a game unless the Heat clinch or injuries force them to play him. Highly unlikely they throw an undersized, underdeveloped physically forward into a pro game unless they can shelter him properly.

So in a perfect world if it is all decided by Friday, he might get that last regular season game. Back to back nothing game against Tucson. It is a home game with last change so they can manage him a little easier in terms of match ups.

Heat can clinch tonight if BOTH the following happens:
Heat win in any fashion (regulation/OT/SO) over Ontario.
Bakersfield loses in regulation to San Diego.

A lot of Ontario guys scratched tonight.
Kylington still out, no Phillips either.
Phillips' junior teammate, Chaz Reddekopp, is playing in his AHL debut tonight for Ontario. I've liked him a lot whenever watching Victoria.
Anthems are on now.

Janko fishes a puck out a scrum on a 4 on 4 and feeds Hathaway for a hash-marks in breakaway and it's 1-0!
Great way to start such a huge game!

Down 2-1 after 2. Stockton came out ultra soft for the first half of the period but turned it on a bit at the end.
Jankowski's line is the entire offense tonight. Lomberg has been good too but there's lots of passes missing their mark and a lot of pucks being bobbled.
Fortunately, Bakersfield is also down 2-1 late in their second period.

It's been all Stockton for several shifts here and now Stockton is headed to the PP.
3-1 in San Diego as well.
The PP cashes in! Mangiapane on the rebound!
7 minutes left, 2-2

You don't need ESP to know that placing a guy on waivers means you have no control over whether he gets claimed or not. Its 100% on the Flames for exposing him. It happens.

On top of that - if Byron buries half the breakaways the year prior I don't think he makes his way to waivers. Good for small Paul though, he made the most of his chance in Montreal this year couldn't be happier for him.
8 mins left actually in the Bakersfield game
