As a GM Theo Epstein ends droughts in Boston and Chicago, After winning in Boston Peter Chiarelli has a shot to do the same with the Oilers
Counter point: Mike Trout, like McDavid, is considered one of, if not the best player in his sport. The Angels still suck because they, like the Oilers, are run by incompetent nincompoops.

Can't disagree more. A single stud player in hockey has the ability to steal far more many game compared to a ball player. Angles hardly suck btw they've been darn better the last decade than the Oilers. mike scioscia a nincompoop oh ok.

Buddy I'm a die hard Angels fan. I know what I'm talking about. And yeah, they do suck, they were 21 games back of first place. They've had one good year since 2009. And if you don't think Arte Morino is horrible I don't know what to say to you. He's the Katz of baseball. Never said Scioscia was a nincompoop. In fact he's just about the only competent piece they have. But enough of this derail.
The point still stands, Edmonton sucks.

And from the looks of the boxscore it must've been a pretty deflating game to boot. Going ahead 3 times only to have NY come right back with a quick tying goal each time.

2006-2016 tell me more about the decade of suck. Talk to a Jays fan if you want to talk about suck. Playoffs 50% of that for the "woeful" Angles. Your comment comparing ball players vs hockey players is still a joke also. Apples to oranges. McDavid makes a lottery team a playoff cusp team. Trout can only do so much.

I compared ball players to hockey players as a response to David Staples asinine comments. And I don't care about what happened 10 years ago, I care about what's happening now. And what's happening now is the Oilers sucking. They're not the Cubs of the NHL.

A stud pitcher has a huge effect on the game. As much as a QB in football.
troutman, it depends on how you're quantifying it. A pitcher has more control over the outcome of a game in the game they're playing. Zyzz mentioned they star hockey players have the potential to steal more games.
With pitchers starting every five games I tend to agree.

Tell me more about Doc with the Jays. A pitcher can be lights out but need some great d, run support and a bullpen. Good hockey players make average players look like stars.

Bumgarner carried the Giants on his back in 2014. Kluber nearly did it this year.
As far as position players go, I'd say catchers and shortstops are the most influential.
Said pitcher doesn't win every game. Hockey players are every day guys. Bumgarner could win 30 plus games in the reg season and the team misses the playoffs by 30 games. He could be lights out in the wild card game and lose 1 - 0
