E3 2017: The Thread
It's that time of year again, and smaller news is already starting to trickle out. The big companies have their line-ups ready to go, and there's sure to be plenty of surprises along with more footage and announcements on games we are all looking forward to. We'll have this as a central area to discuss the press conferences, post news and trailers, and just generally do our thing.
Here's the presentations schedule below, things are a little more spread out this year. All times are in Mountain time, as most of us are from Calgary.
Saturday, June 10th
EA - 1:00 PM
Sunday, June 11
Microsoft - 3:00 PM
Bethesda - 10:00 PM
Monday, June 12
PC Gaming - 11:00 AM
Ubisoft - 2:00 PM
Sony - 7:00 PM
Tuesday, June 13
Nintendo - 10:00 AM

Sony has been killing it at E3 the past couple of years with just games, games, and more games so I'm looking forward to what they have to show.
Mario Odyssey should be making an appearance in one way or another so I'm excited to get a look at that. Other than that nothing really too specific. I always enjoy the surprises.
I'm predicting Microsoft with talk about Scorpio all conference which doesn't really excite me.

I'm looking forward to everything but Nintendo so I'm glad they're on last.

Pretty much.
Microsoft: "PC Hardware master race!!!!!11"
Sony and Nintendo: "Good for you! We'll be over here playing games and having fun."
Hopefully Sony has something up its sleeve for PSVR that isn't yet another shooter or tech demo.

I'm hoping to see a lot more and hopefully a 2017 release date for God of War. That and The Last of Us Part II are the two upcoming PS4 games I care about the most (though TLOU2 is probably more of a late 2018 game, I would guess).
Super Mario Odyssey is my most anticipated game for the rest of the year, can't wait to see more of it and hopefully some more cool reveals for the Switch. With Nintendo, I found it's always best not to get your expectations too high.

I would think we're going to get a sneak a peak at Star Wars Battlefront 2, which has a campaign to bridge the OT from the ST.

It's one of EA's premiere games for the fall -- you'll probably see a significant live gameplay demo from the campaign and lots of info/video on the multiplayer as well.

I'm hoping in general we see a lot of games for the Switch. I want a racing game(3rd party is fine) a new Pilotwings would be awesome(but I've been saying that for for a decade) and dammit, give me Metroid. Hopefully 3rd party support is strong at this E3, otherwise the future is going to be Wii U like.

Yeah, they officially announced Scorpio LAST E3 in 2016 and it's still not out.
There has to be a massive flood of software and VR exclusively coming out for it.
And $399 US.

You would think they have been holding some stuff back because it's been crickets lately. A 4k presentation of Forza isn't going to cut it.

Probably not. Nintendo's already said the focus will be on what they've announced for 2017. Wouldn't put it past them to sneak something else in though.

Another think I'm interested is to see if EA takes Madden to 4k visuals or if they are going to continue to take the money and run by making marginal changes every year to the same basic platform. I imagine the NFL can't be pleased that the franchise is starting to slowly decline in sales. It just seems that EA has milked the franchise as much as it can and maybe it's time for the NFL to open up licensing to other developers that can maybe revitalize football on consoles.

Would be a very 'Microsoft' move... Dark Souls has basically run it's course, but they would be the types to buy it and run it into the ground with gradually declining success. Then close the developer.

If the Scorpio comes out for $399 US (I expect $499 US) that would be impressive because they would have to be losing quite a bit per console at that price.

Well. They'd have to buy FromSoftware, not let the make any more Dark Souls games, force them to make kid AR games, have all the talent leave and THEN shutdown the developer . . .
. . . poor Rare.

I think it has to be $399 or less. It'll be DOA if it is higher or any where close to $499. It'll be nearly 2 years when it finally comes out - I'm sure they were able to work out deals to get cheaper parts in bulk.
