When I have some cookies or something to sell, I just put the box in the kitchen with an envelope for cash.

I dislike it when people actively solicit at work for kids' activities (don't get me started on the whole issue of why we need fundraising in the first place). I'd pay out of my own pocket before I'd go around harassing and guilting acquaintances into giving me money for my kids' leisure activities.

When you blow individual bonus targets out of the water but still get "Meets Expectations" on your performance ratings.

My experience is, those of us that had to solicit, support the people that supported them. I know I've bought things I dont' want or need, but I look at it as supporting someone(s kids) that supported me when I went out begging for my kid.
If you don't want what they are selling try just giving them cash as a donation. I was shocked that people get offended when I do that.

The Financial Post's Family Finance section. Wtf is wrong with the people in these profiles? You have a $110k /yr pension, on top of your current assets, and you are wondering if it's enough to retire on?

It's like that for every profile the Financial Post does.

I don't know why people don't make their kids sell their stupid crap instead of peddling it to their colleagues. When I had to sell popcorn for cub scouts my parents would've told me shove it if I asked them for help selling that terrible corn.

EDIT: I like CliffFletchers method of leaving whatever it is in the break room with an envelope for money. I just hate the implicit guilting about little Johnny snot-nose's Tier 7 bantam hockey team

Don't a lot of these have a mandatory amount you have to fundraiser, and if you don't the parents have to cover the amount?

The ones in the Globe and Mail are just as bad. Typically a Boomer couple, one with a high paying job in the public sector and a guaranteed generous pension, another with a six-figure salary in the private sector with a more modest pension, with a house long paid for. The only variants are whether said couple are savers, and can retire comfortably today, or whether they've been blowing through money and maybe need to rein things in for a few years before they retire comfortably.

It's as though they're tailored to enrage GenXers.

For Scouts, there is no minimum for popcorn, but you do have to show up for the bottle drives or they'll cash your $100 cheque.

Again, those who don't want to buy whatever your co-worker's kids are selling, don't buy it. Nothing to get angry about.

If the co-worker selling it gets ticked, tell them to #### off.

Job interviews.

People are desperate, you can hear and see it all through the interview.

Its rough. Some people are coming up on almost 18 months without work and Calgary is still an expensive City to live in.

EI is gone.

Buyouts are likely gone or dwindling.

Eating into savings is rough.

And just the concept of going that long without work is mentally damaging.

I had a select group of co-workers who I would solicit for that stuff.

I would never send to the whole company...that's a cause for a banning...

Luckily most of my colleagues had kids as well so we mutually agreed to support each others kids.

You buy popcorn...I buy Girl guide cookies etc...

If they didn't want to buy no concern from me.

Heck I think I even sold popcorn on here one time...

That said I did make my boys pound the streets selling as well.

No way I was doing it all for them.

Grinding my gears might not be the right term.

It is ####ty interviewing someone while knowing they are not right for the position and hearing the desperation in their voice.

It just isn't enjoyable for me (yes I know it is far worse for them).

It is a ####ty situation all round.

I have 1 position, I wish I had more but I don't.

I like buying fundraiser things from time to time. I don't mind if the people who work at the same site as me ask. The ones who work at another location and wouldn't know me to see me, who send multiple mass emails to the entire company are annoying and I always ignore them.

Nothing to see here. Just a "new" troll trolling an ex-troll, that doesn't realize he just got trolled by his own technique.
