I would hope our first is all we would need but I could see the Pens having interest in Backlund. Bonino is a UFA and needs a raise while Backlund is the better player.
I will probably get roasted for this.

I think this is a gross exaggeration. The fact that he is entering the last year of his current deal reduces the acquisition Price significantly, and this is already in a market in which goaltenders already do not return much more than draft picks and prospects in trades.

The best goalie in the league is not worth a great young player? When is the best goalie in the league traded? Schneider got the 9th overall in a deep draft and was FAR less proven then Price. The pick is FAR less proven than Monahan so I think it balances out

This is what I didn't want to get into because it's subjective, but any team that trades for Price (in the miraculous event he becomes available) is going to be wanting to add him to their roster to put them over the top. They will not be removing core pieces from their roster to get it done.
Any trade for Price IMO will be for prospects and picks. Probably high end prospects and picks mind you, but not young core players.

I think it depends on how Fleury does the rest of the way this year and also how much they think of Jarry and Gillies.
IF the following happens, things would work out quite well for the Pens:
1) Fleury takes them to another championship;
2) They can't get the return they want for Fleury;
3) Flames offer 16OA and Gillies (maybe plus more?);
4) Jarry comes in as Fleury's backup and eventual replacement;
5) Gillies develops into what Murray and Jarry are;
6) Trade Gillies or Jarry for another first round pick.
If they manage the asset well, the Pens could get two first round picks over the next few years while still having championship level goaltending versus if they traded Fleury now for only a 2nd round pick.

If I am Montreal I roll the dice to keep Price rather than trade him for the 16th overall, Kylington, and Parsons. He gets them to the playoffs and a pick/prospect package is magic beans. Habs are not moving him Bergevin has already said as much

"Because teams can only protect one goaltender, the Penguins must convince Fleury to waive his no-movement clause in order to protect young goalie Matt Murray."
I wonder if MAF forces the Pens to trade Matt Murray.

Again, their best option if Fleury decides to play chicken is to just buy him out. Extremely doubtful they trade Murray.

They will buy out MAF if it comes to it over losing Murray.

I think one of these goalies will be a Flame next season:
Antti Raanta
Philipp Grubauer
Marc-Andre Fleury
Calvin Pickard

I doubt they'd buy MAF him out.
Maybe if he was stinking up the joint, but not when he's carrying them deep in the playoffs combined with the fact that they have Tristan Jarry in the pipeline AND the fact they would get a decent return for Murray in a trade.
1. Good veteran starter, good young prospect, good trade return
is better than
2. Good young starter with injury issues, good young prospect, cap hit of $1.9 million for 4 years

Now that Scott Darling & Ben Bishop appear to no longer be options to be the Flames #1 netminder, could we do a round 2 of this poll question?

The problem here is that there is no good precedent. Like I said, the fact that he is entering a contract year actually reduces Price's trade value quite a bit. If Price decides he would prefer moving on, then Montreal could be cornered into a position where they have to move him.
I don't think it is likely that Price is traded, but I certainly don't see that it would be impossible, nor do I see that he would command an enormous return like you have speculated.

Yeap. The closest one I can think of was Luongo when he was first traded from FLA to VAN. Young star goalie with a pedigree.
He went for:
Bryan Allen (late 20's #4 defensive Dman)
Alex Auld (late 20's marginal back up / AHL tweener)
Todd Bertuzzi (past his prime power forward coming off a year + suspension)
And it was actually the Panther who added a 22 year old D prospect (Krajicek, who went on to play 200+ NHL games before going to KHL) and a 6th round pick.

I have re-set the poll, and removed Bishop and Darling.
I considered simply removing those two, and left it open for posters who voted for them to recast their votes, but I think in the light of everything that has been said in the past few weeks a number of posters will probably appreciate the opportunity to pick someone new.
Vote.
