If they were displeased with the lack of moves this offseason, they're gonna love the next handful of them!

We can't point out how E=NG due to their high crime rate?

Edmonton has been seeing some tough times as of late—and we’re not just talking about the Oilers. (Really, how many first round draft picks are they going to get?) Unfortunately, Edmonton’s crime rate is about as stagnant as their hockey team. The city has had a persistent problem with violent crime, especially sex-based crimes such as sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, and sexual violations against children. That being said, Edmonton’s overall crime index rating is “only” 103.9—lower than the others on this list.
Is that too mean to point out? Not funny enough?

Look, murder isn't funny, but in cities that are no good it tends to happen a lot.

Quote:
New numbers from Statistics Canada put Edmonton at the third-highest homicide rate among large cities in the country as the homicide rate across Canada jumped 15 per cent.

According to the Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics Homicide Study, there were 604 victims of homicide in Canada in 2015, 83 more than in 2014. Of those 604 victims, 32 homicides were in Edmonton.

Despite this increase over 2014, the homicide rate in Canada in 2015 remains below the average rate from 2005 to 2014.

The salmonella at the folk festival was a little bit funny considering no one died and the previous debate in this thread around Edmonton being good because "festival city" and "world famous folk festival".

Actually I would love for the Oilers to acquire Weber. Cap hell with a close to $8M aging defenceman who they have to trade some of their few young assets for.

that one was fair, but isn't there enough to make fun of without making a murdered woman part of the mockery? that's what made it over the line to me and turned his attempt at humor into something else.
gotta draw the line somewhere.

if murder (and now bringing up sexual assault) is not funny, why are you bringing it at all into a thread where the point is making fun of Edmonton in a humorous and mocking way?

sorry man. not cool.

This thread isn't about humor. This thread is about Edmonton being no good.

High crime rate is bad. Edmonton has a high crime rate.

So just more evidence that Edmonton is no good.

Probably as a result of too much barley-based celebratory sustenance, I accidentally posted this in the V=NG thread. It belongs here. Apologies for a second post.

This is a hockey forum. I come here for hockey. Not poor taste and lack of class.

This thread is the "Edmonton is no good" thread, not "Edmonton hockey is no good".

There are a myriad of reasons why Edmonton is no good and they should all be pointed out here.

The title of this thread is quite clear and if it offends you then maybe you should stay out of it. You can find your hockey on many other threads.

This thread is intended to be a fun outlet for some mudslinging and what not, but bringing up things like murder rate seems well outside the spirit of that purpose.
There are plenty of no good things to talk about when it comes to Edmonton - we don't need to reach for things like that.

Like, for example, their football team's performance yesterday.

Possibly my favourite example of Edmonton-level "no-good"ness yesterday occurred when the Esks' defence was tricked into jumping offside during a Stampeders' third-down gamble...

...IMMEDIATELY AFTER HAVING WATCHED THEIR OWN OFFENCE SUCCESSFULLY EXECUTE THE EXACT SAME PLAY against the Stampeders' defence.

That is an unparalleled level of "no good" that can only come from all things labelled "Edmonton".

Latest Lonely Planet guide throws shade on Edmonton

http://edmontonjournal.com/news/loca...de-on-edmonton

Quote:
“Alberta’s second-largest city and capital is a government town that you’re more likely to read about in the business pages than the travel supplements,” the book says.

“Downtown is for the moneyed and the down-and-out. There’s hope that the much-lauded Rogers Place will breathe life into it, but this seems like a tall order.”

Conversely, Calgary gets a glowing review with the writers finding Alberta’s most populated city “that to non-Calgarians long served as a somewhat bland business centre or a functional springboard has actually become — ahem — cool.”
