If you take into account shootout games, LA and Calgary are the only teams who have won more than half their OT games during 3-on-3.
No team has a better combined OT and shootout record than the Flames since 3-on-3 OT was introduced (winning 68.57% of all games that have gone to OT).

Ok so basically since 3 on 3 was introduced, the Calgary flames have had the best chance of winning in extra time over any other team.

I remember during the dark years the Flames would seemingly never win in OT or the shootout, especially against the Canucks and Ducks. They always seemed to beat the Oilers, though.

100% no he wasn't considering the true dark years were 97-2003 when there was no shootout.

It's certainly a stretch and not true, but I have noticed an uptick in Edmonton related posts and comments. Even the Jagr thread now has comments about what Oilers fans think of it.
As for 100 points, I have to believe Flames OT record will revert somewhat back to the norm. They are a good 3 on 3 club no question, but coaching is too good in this league. Other teams will adapt and improve. So key to 100 points is being quite a bit better in regulation. Extremely achievable, and success will depend upon how the team's best players perform. It always does.

Those years were down right fun compared to the late 90s/early 00s. At least you had hope.
I remember going to a half empty dome in those days and the Flames not being able to string 2 passes together and the Hurricanes schooling them.
Those were my formative hockey years. No wonder I cling to the idea of bringing Iggy back.
I almost want to bring him back as a reward for being the only bright spot during those truly dark times.

Consider yourself lucky you didn't have to experience the young guns era then.

To keep things interesting we would do an over/under on the Flames first shot. First guy picks the time, 2nd over/under.
Usually the time would be set right around 8 minutes!

I generally think that 3 on 3 performance has a high degree of luck - particularly when you see teams perform way above the norm.
But I do believe that Johnny is an x-factor that one has to account for and puts the Flames in a unique position to succeed under that format.
And I think a secondary factor, but part of it, is a very mobile D with Gio, Brodie and Hamilton all able to really push the play in 3 on 3, while having the ability to get back.
But it really is all about Johnny and his unique skill set that makes him particularly dangerous in 3 on 3 play.

The years I attended the most flames games ever before I moved were 97/98/99/00.
Probably went to about 20-30 games those days and sold 50/50 tickets. Dark times!
Valeri Bure was the man.

Backlund was a beast in OT last season too. His speed, skill, and 2 way play is well suited for 3 on 3.

You mean to tell me that top 6 that included Jeff Schantz for multiple years wasn't exciting, competitive hockey?
The brawl with Anaheim in '01 was the best game during that stretch and we lost that one 4-0.

haha although there was a glorious winter night in 2000 I think where the last place Flames schooled the first place Hurricanes 7 or 8 to 3. Clarke Wilm and Iggy scored 2 each.
