I’ll give him Lindholm. He was atrocious.
Hanifin was having a career year. Tanev was solid as always maybe a step behind.
Toffoli and Sharangovich are a wash and Toffoli wasn’t even on the team.
People really need to realize the type of impact these young guys need to make to get us competing for a playoff spot.
3 of them are rookies and 1 guy has been battling injuries every year.

Just because I think Huska is not a good coach for this team does not mean I am right on that. I don't think the system he has deployed has fit the team at all but maybe he makes adjustments after reviewing the year. Maybe he doesn't. I also have no idea what the roster will look like next year, neither do you.

Which one of these guys will become the next Hanifin, Lindholm, Toffoli and Tanev? How long it would take them to get there?
It’s a big substraction right now

Sure sounds like we will be playing the same system.
He said they got more comfortable with it towards the end. It was a big change they couldn’t grasp early on.

Also, there is a reason players like Kuzmenko and Sharangovich were healthy scratches often on good teams. I like both players but they are a bit one dimensional. Although I think Sharo has improved a lot this year.
|
You look at what Zary did this year and tell me that he didn't basically just replace whatever Toffoli could have done with us?
Sharky vs. Lindholm?
My point is, we didn't just completely gut this team. No when you still have Kadri, Backlund, Huberdeau, Weegar, Andersson, etc., on top of Kuzmenko, Sharky and our young guys. We're pretty far away from being god-awful.
Again, I believe it's just as difficult in this league to be top-3 and bottom-3

Who could have predicted Zary to basically replace Toffoli this year? The answer to your question is we don't know, but we can probably bet that someone will if given the opportunity.
Well maybe not 100% replace. But at least fill in enough to keep us out of the basement. Someone is bound to do that.

Zary didn’t replace Toffoli. Sharangovich did.
Zary was a bonus and was probably propping us up from what Lindholm was supposed to do.

The only one of those players you mentioned who is a 1st liner is Weegar.
Kadri is a fine 2nd line center, although aging.
Backlund is a fine 3rd line center, but aging.
Huberdeau is somewhere between a 2nd line winger and healthy scratch level, depending which version shows up.
Anderrson is an alright 2nd line defender.
Kuzmenko is a fine pp specialist, but not a player proven to belong long term in the top 6.
Sharangovich is a good 2nd liner based on his play this year. Same with Zary. Small sample sizes for both though, hope they keep it up.

Whatever. Semantics. You're proving my point that someone will step up and fill voids left by other players.

Well, the point is not all of them will make it and it will take them some times
In the meantime, hopefully they qualify for a top lottery pick

Toronto, and it’s not even close.
Huberdeau is the worst contract in the league. 7 more years? No one is touching that.

Yeah I hope we get a top lottery pick this year and next year. Draft a top line C and a top pair D and that's a great way to start a rebuild/retool.
I just think given the history of this team, we'll probably sign a few guys like Duclair and Dillon, make a run at Stephenson and Marchessault and maybe acquire a Krebs or Pinto and try to compete again (and fall short).

Advanced stats says one of the bottom 20% of the players in the league, defensively.
The eye test told me just as much. He was great offensively and bad defensively.

This would be bad and set us back for years.
But you're right it's probably what they try. It's the flames way. Ugh.

Yeah I don’t see any of that happening. He isn’t hand out big UFA deals, or trading for old players.
I think they bought into his vision to rebuild.
I think people will surprised at how quiet we are for any big signing m, and at how bad we will be.
