So apparently now Romo will not be getting released, and will be getting traded instead. Makes no sense really, the teams who have cap space to absorb Romo's deal are pretty much the Redskins if they trade Cousins, or the Jets. Texans and Broncos probably would need to send money back, or Romo would have to agree to a serious restructure.

There are now multiple guards who make more than the entire Seahawks offensive line combined. Browns offensive line probably costs 10 times as much as the Seahawks.

Yep, Saints have been busy today. They also signed Ted Ginn Jr (Cooks insurance policy), Panthers LB AJ Klein, and are reportedly closing in on a big money deal to re sign Nick Fairley. Brees tired of losing in his twilight while he's still got the arm, Payton/Loomis trying to speed up the rebuild for their 37 year old QB.

NFL stunner: Texans trade QB Brock Osweiler AND a 2018 second-round pick to Cleveland for the Browns to take Osweiler’s $16M salary of Houston’s books, per league sources. The move clears out millions in salary-cap space for Houston to intensify efforts to sign former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, per sources.

Browns being smart
they are rebuilding, have all the cap space, they basically bought a 2nd round pick
this is very smart, I think they can release him after this season too for minimal cap hit

Think the Browns give him a chance and cut him after this year. They get a free 2nd round pick. They have the cap space to use, worth a shot. Not a bad move by them I don't think.
Now c'mon Houston, give Romo big money and keep him the hell out of Denver. You know you want to do it.

How is that bad for the Browns? Osweiler's guarantees are done after this year, and they had over $100 million in cap space. So they basically got a second round pick to help the Texans, and it won't hurt them long term at all. I would have held out for a first round pick, but a top 60 draft pick for basically cap space is not a bad deal at all.

I actually like this a lot from the Browns' perspective. They had so much cap space that they would have struggled to spend it all, and a 2nd is a great rebuilding piece. They can cut Osweiler next year with very little cap implications, no problem. Smart move.
Hope Romo really ends up in Houston. Like the team a lot and I think a good QB immediately turns them into a contender.

Good move by the Browns. Guess this has to mean Romo to Houston? This off-season seems crazy so far.

Yeah, good move for Cleveland, they have the money and cap space so no biggie. He won't last past this year anyways.

I think Houston has always made the most sense for Romo
doesnt have to move the family
Houston is arguably the better team already, and they have the better O line so he's protected. Plus he avoids 6 games against Khalil Mack, Joey Bosa, and Justin Houston.
they are going to be a super trendy super bowl pick if Romo signs

Now the Browns also have more ammo to trade for Garoppolo too. The Browns have so much cap space they can probably cut Osweiler immediately and take the hit for dead cap space and move it all into this year. People mocking the Browns here are way off base.

They also have 14 picks in the first 4 rounds of the next two drafts, that's pretty damn good.
Talk of the Browns just releasing Osweiller and eating the cap hit, crazy.

I also love this trade because it's such an NBA trade, trading picks for cap space and then turning around and dumping the player. I hope we see more of this, cap space in some ways is more valuable than picks, depending on the situation.
