I agree with you, but it's for the scenarios where supervision isn't available. Kids shouldn't be picking up needles on the ground either, but I'm going to inform them that while all parts of the needle can be dangerous, the tip is especially dangerous.
Kids i'm with still come and get me if there's something they think is dangerous.
I don't think education is ever harmful for those instances.

Hopefully grandpa was smart enough not to keep a loaded shotgun in the attic(or anywhere in the house) unfortunately this isn't the case all too often.
Young kids should be taught that guns are "bad" and to run from them and teenagers should be taught how to respect them. but gun culture somehow trys to make them fun.

Poor kid?? What about the instructor?

Yeah... Poor kid. At first glance, the instructor earned a Darwin Award. The kid has to live with the fact that she killed someone. Not sure why she was at a gun range to begin with, but yeah. Poor kid.

This whole thing is 100% negligence on the part of the instructor. It's obvious she can't even hold the gun, let alone control in, before she fires a single round.
So just because you don't have a reason for one, it means there is no reason for other people not to have or use them. Got it.
Do you also feel that unless someone is a professional racer, there is no reason to own a high horsepower vehicle?

Proper supervision, you mean like at a gun range with an instructor?

Hey, I just typed in NRA + youth into google images and this is one of many pictures that came up.
Even though the link where it comes from seems dead, it sure doesn't look like it's from lazy/bad NY Daily News tabloid journalists
http://pridenation.com/magazine/nras...y-was-a-blast/
pridenation.com seems a bit like something gun nuts would relate to
and
nras-youth-day-was-a-blast seems like people who like to mix their children with guns.

Yeah, because the out of control gun culture in the USA is centered around hunting and target shooting. That's why most people in the US own guns and that is what the NRA is fighting for.

Whiteout is correct, IMO. The second thing I thought when I saw that video (the first was what the ####?) is this girl has had no training or certification prior stepping on the range.

There's no way for a child that young to safely handle the recoil of a weapon like that.
One reason people keep mentioning in this thread that they started out with a .22 is because it would be stupid to give a child anything bigger because they're going to hurt themselves just shooting the damned thing, not because they are going to do less damage to whatever they hit with a .22.
There is definitely a darwin award for the instructor for putting a mac10/uzi whatever it is in the hands of a kid.
That kid shouldn't be handling a drill or a saw, let alone a firearm.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I don't condone or agree with a child handling a weapon like that. In fact, I think I have been pretty clear in my support of gun control.
That being said it is obvious that this is the first time, or near first time this kids has put her hands on the weapon. She has no idea of a firing stance (he has to adjust her). Had she had "dry" training with the weapon she would not have needed that much correction.

Instructor was obviously one of those gun nuts who thought allowing a nine year old to handle an uzi was a good idea cause 'proper supervision'. Yeah, how'd that work out for him?
And those are always the types (read ALWAYS) that think giving kids weapons training proves their sideways political ideals are correct. Otherwise, really, why would you do it other than to prove that idea to yourself and your society. Nine might be to young for any gun, it's definitely too young for that firepower.
So yeah, zero sympathy for the instuctor. He created the situation. Do feel bad for the girl, though maybe she can turn it into a positive in the future by speaking out about the horrible judgement her parents and instructor and so many Americans have about firearms that she had to deal with first hand.

8 people are dead, and we're going to split hairs about whether it belongs in this thread? Really?
