Right, because Planet Earth wasn't insanely popular. They bought Top Gear off of Clarkson for a song, they made ridiculous money off of it, and sometimes acting like a dick has consequences. I'm sure BBC will be just fine.

BTW, I don't actually think this will be the demise of the BBC or anything like that. I was just saying Top Gear was one of it's main products that actually generated good revenue and cultural relevance.

James May and Richard Hammond are out of contract with the BBC from midnight, after declining to sign new deals to present the next series of Top Gear.
The pair are now free agents, meaning rival broadcasters can approach them with job offers.
Hammond has tweeted that he is "not ready for retirement". May does not seem in a great hurry to find new employment.
Doesn't really surprise me. It's fascinating how those things sometimes go ... the BBC did the right thing, and still, they are the biggest losers in all of this. Hope the trio will wotk something out with Netflix now.
I wonder what they will do with all the segments they have filmed but haven't aired? I hope they don't get lost in all of this. My guess would be that they just get aired without the context they usually get.
Writing in his column in the Sunday Times, he has revealed he wants to star in another "car show" and admits there is no way back for him with Top Gear.
He said: "I have lost my baby but I shall create another.
"I don't know who the other parent will be or what the baby will look like, but I cannot sit around any more organising my photograph album.
"Let's stop being silly and pick up the pieces and start again ... I just know I'm going to do another car show."
Jeremy Clarkson is believed to be working on a "top secret" new project with former colleagues James May and Richard Hammond at Goodwood Racing Circuit.
The three were spotted in a hotel near the race track in West Sussex yesterday, having been seen out at dinner in a pub the night before.
Yeah, not surprising especially after Andy Wilman sort of quit, didnt quit and then actually quit. And his parting shot at the BBC:
