Got to see Civil War last night, quite enjoyed it although one of those movies where it takes a lot out of you at the end. I had not seen any of the trailers or heard a lot about it going in, I wasn't really interested in seeing it, but very glad I went. Focuses on the photo journalists covering the war, and the war itself is almost secondary. I liked that it didn't hold your hand through it and have a ton of exposition between the characters to build the background.
The Civil War movie just annoys the piss out of me, especially after the capital insurrection attempt and during an election year in the US. Just does not seem like a fun scenario to watch play out and not my idea of entertainment.
Yes, I would say so. The war itself is almost secondary in a way, I would in no way classify it as a shoot-em up action movie. Hard to define it really, very interested to see what others say once they have seen it.

I don't think Garland is capable of doing a shoot-em-up action flick. Anyone who saw the Ending to Men would understand... assuming they understood the ending!

It felt a little weird seeing the trailer and thinking about how I sure hope that’s not the USA in the next 5 years. Because it sure feels like that’s where we’re headed. Hits a little too close to home. Nothing about another civil war down south seems entertaining.

That's a weird one.
Garland did write and Produce "Dredd'. He apparently was also on the set constantly and unofficially acted as Director too. That movie, as far as pure action goes, was awesome.
Not that I disagree with the diminishing return comment but I'm such a sucker for the Terminator franchise. Genesis, Salvation, Dark Fate, the TV show.. I can enjoy them all.
Yeah same here (see avatar pic). I will from time to time do a marathon of all the movies over a couple weeks. There are aspects I enjoy from all the movies, although I have the hardest time with Genesis. I have a whole huge review of all the movies but have too embarrassed to post haha.

Would recommend.
Cut out of work early to check it out.
What a gut punch that movie is. Wow
Frightening. Anxiety inducing. Shocking. Felt prescient. Super engrossing. Holy crap. That movie was movie making at its finest. Fkd me up.

I'd call it a highly successful art piece. Present some hard truths to the viewer, nothing sugar coated, and a warning of what could happen if things go further off the rails down south. Too many people brushed off Jan 6 as a "protest", maybe some might have second thoughts after seeing a dramatization of what an actual modern US civil war would look like
Watched a great 90s noir thriller The Hot Spot. The story is a con man (Don Johnson, Dakota's father) rolls into a small town and starts to get involved with two women, one a young girl who works with him (Jennifer Connelly) and the other the femme fatale wife of his boss (Virgina Madsen). It's definitely more of a slow burn film but it has great atmosphere dripping with tension all while being scored with some great jazz music. If you're into noir thrillers this is one of the best.

This is how we know Don Johnson now? As Dakota's father? Oof, I'm getting old.
