Ghomeshi isn't going to be so lucky though. He's finished. Canada is too small, this story is too big, and even though he had fans, he was just a guy on the radio. He can be replaced.
Of course, Rob Lowe and R. Kelly were also replaceable. Maybe not so much Michael Jackson - he was kind of "one of a kind". Apparently moreso than any of us thought.
But! I just compared Jian Ghomeshi to Michael Jackson, so that's not good!

Michael Jackson was much more well loved and the reports are never proven. R Kelly and Rob Lowe never recovered and lived happily ever after

Rob Lowe is pretty big now but he was a major star and it was only a sex tape (in the 80s unlike now) and it took about a decade.

Matthew Broderick killed someone in the 80's. Hollywood celebrity come back stories are nothing knew, happens all the time. Don't think this applies to Canadian radio stars though, especially with how utterly scummy he now is, or how open it now is.

Completely off topic but I had no idea she was Canadian.

Well. That's disgusting.

To be honest, I had no idea that the Q was so popular and so widely syndicated. I used to listen to it on CBC radio at work, but I never thought of Jian G. as some type of celebrity juggernaut.

This was a car accident in which he ended up being charged with careless driving. Not like he stabbed someone in cold blood.
It was also easier to come back in that time frame without social media and what not. Its a lot easier to bombard a company's twitter/facebook account now than it was to voice your displeasure then.

Ghomeshi seems like a sociopath. That is a pretty hard thing for people to forgive.

The majority of his fans are (were) progressive people and I'd guess the majority of his fans are (were) women. To say that he burnt those bridges is an understatement. I can't imagine what he could possibly do to rehabilitate his image enough to ever get back on the air.

Bill Cosby, Sean Penn, Mike Tyson, Woody Allen, etc.
There are enough celebrities who are still successful now or have been recently that have been accused and sometimes convicted of sex-crimes (including rape) that I would not at all be surprised if he recovers from this.

Outside of Tyson and Allen, I have no idea what the others were accused of, but all four are head and shoulders higher than a CBC radio host in terms of the celebrity hierarchy. There is absolutely zero chance he comes out of this with any semblance of a career in the public eye.
*Not saying celebrity status should allow one to get away with rape or beating women.

Rape.
Sean Penn, for instance, repeatedly beat Madonna and raped her. The more you know!
There is definitely more than a zero percent chance he comes out of this with a career in the public eye. If you think that's true, then you're either underestimating his (as of last month) popularity, or you're underestimating how quick our culture forgets and moves on.
Jian is the flavour of the week. This might not even be relevant in two months, not to mention ten years.

Nah, at best 0.01, maybe gay porn.
Seriously who would employ him? US radio is mouth frothing Rush Limbough, the UK wouldn't touch him, half their DJ's are locked up already.
No he's done like a kipper even if he doesn't go to jail.

I'm not convinced he's the juggernaut the media is portraying him to be. Sure, maybe among the latte-sippers and within the CBC bubble he is, but he's hardly some media titan.
That's not to say he didn't have some power in the entertainment industry. Obviously he did. It is alarming to read that many of the women felt they couldn't come forward for this very fact. I think we need to be asking some questions, eventually, about the power imbalance that exists within 'celebrity' culture, and how it is that it can be exploited to prey on young people.

So within a week Ghomeshi went from taking a personal leave, to getting fired, to suing his employer for $55M....to now (possibly) facing criminal charges and jail time. Not a good week overall
