I read about this a couple of hours or so ago. They said it wasn't serious at that time, but yet he was in the ICU. I said to my husband then, that I wondered if it was an epidural hemorrhage (the 'walk and talk' injury), which is what killed actress Natasha Richardson in 2009. I hope the hospital was able to treat him quickly enough.

I hadn't read until now that his family is able to be at his bedside. I'm glad they are there with him. It really doesn't look good.

What is it with celebrities and fatal or near-fatal ski injuries? Seems like so many famous people die this way

Just crazy that he's driven vehicles hundreds of miles per hour and will likely fall because of an accident on skis. Just crazy.

The most decorated driver ever.
Surely, if his health were in a race, all bets would be in his favour.

My favorite driver of all time by a wide margin.
Certainly hopes he pulls through.

Im sure there are plenty of ski injuries suffered by normal people. If it was Jos Bleau in France we don't hear about it.

It does sound pretty similar by the way they're reporting it. I hope he pulls through.

A real testament to the safety improvements in open wheel racing. F1 always on the cutting edge, of course.

Mr Chandler said the fact that Schumacher, 44, was in a coma meant he could have suffered a number of different injuries.
He could have suffered a diffuse injury to his brain which can then result in brain swelling," he said.
"He could have sustained some sort of brain haemorrhage and if there was a blood clot within his brain or on the surface of his brain underneath his skull, that might need to be removed.
"Sometimes there is nothing actually to remove but you put in an intracranial pressure monitor, which basically is an operation that requires drilling a hole in the skull and putting a fine probe inside.
"Or if there is diffuse swelling of the brain, sometimes surgeons remove a large piece of the skull...so there is space for the brain to swell to minimise the pressure on vital structure.

Nothing in the last 12 hours or so Still very critical, still saying it's too early to give prognosis.

the German speaking media has been absolutely disgusting ... just going to show you the kind of world we're living. They are making this a live event, with ticker updates, twitter campaigns with own hashtags, interviews with shrewd doctors who have absolutely no inside news on his injuries and just spew vague and of course dramatic possibilities and so on. You can just see how some stations are enjoying this as an opportunity to feign sympathy and push for quotes.
Hope he'll be fine.

Not sure you understand the immense figure that Schumacher is in Germany, the exact same thing would happen in Canada if an equally high profile person was involved in a similar situation
