Default Former Stampeder John Forzani passes away after heart attack

http://www.calgaryherald.com/busines...276/story.html

Quote:
Prominent Calgary businessman, community leader and former football star John Forzani is in a Palm Springs hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack.
On Thursday, the Eisenhower Medical Center confirmed Forzani is a patient in the facility’s intensive care unit. A spokesperson said Forzani’s condition is “undetermined.”
Forzani is a founder of The Forzani Group and ran the company for many years and is a minority owner in the Calgary Stampeders.
Several friends say it appears Forzani had a massive heart attack.
Quote:
Ken King, president and chief executive of the Calgary Flames, said he is “crushed and devastated” by the news.
“He’s a very dear and close friend,” said King, who has known Forzani since 1976.
“What he as a person has accomplished from a business perspective is very well known . . . This is a beautiful man. A beautiful person.”

Hopefully he recovers well. Having worked with the Forzani Group for a long time, I met him on several occasions. Great guy, always had a smile on his face.

I hit refresh on the article and apparently he's on life support and has suffered severe damage to his brain.

Very saddened by the news. Having been at FGL for 10 years, I had the opportunity to meet him on several occasions. Very engaging and a great guy to talk to. He was also very active in giving to a lot of charities.

Agreed. Every interaction I had with him at the office was a pleasure. Great guy to have a conversation with. Doesn't sound good but I really hope he recovers. My prayers go out to him and the Forzani family.

Yeah doesnt look good at all. Tragic, just like that and not just a heart attack but probably a stroke as well.

Business wise, turned one Sport Chek store on 37st into a multimillion dollar, 500+ store venture across the country and then sold to Canadian Tire.

Was prominent in the Save our Stamps drive in the mid 80's,and then even a bigger role when his money and group took back the Stamps from Michael Feterik in 2005.

“He’s not well. They said that there is a possibility that he could somehow survive but his quality of life would be non-existent,” said Tom Forzani. “He was without oxygen for a period of time which caused severe injury to the brain.”
This was basically the same thing the doctor's told us about my father. They can't rule out recovery but not only is it very very unlikely but recovery may not be the best thing for his (non-existent) quality of life...this is quite sad.

Very sad, the guy was a pillar in the community and he and others stepped in to save the Stampeders on a few occasions.

RIP

Sad, 67 is still young in today's age. From everything I've read, sounds like he was a great and giving man. RIP.

Really sad to hear. I worked on a video once of him talking to Haskayne Business students on how to be a successful leader. His one bit on why it's important for businesses to step up and help the community because the government most likely can't is something I always go back to when people complain about corporate campaigns.
