I don't think the Preds would be where they are if they kept Weber and not acquire Subban as the game is passing by Shea Weber in terms of speed. Shea Weber may have a hard shot and hard hitting abilities, but lacks the foot speed of Subban that is characteristic of the new Nashville Predators

David Poile should win GM of the year for the Subban trade alone. At the time the consensus was Montreal might have a slight advantage short term but long term Nashville wins the trade. With Nashville ending up ahead short term it was a complete steal of a deal.

I wouldn't call it a steal of a deal, even though at the time I thought Subban in Nashville would be a huge hit and transition from Fisher as face of the franchise.

Shea Weber had a heck of a season in Montreal.

I'd put this as what it is: two superstar defencemen who were traded for each other, and who both produced for their new teams.

Nice to see Nashville embracing and celebrating their hockey' teams success. They are really into the game which is great to see.

Also, special thanks for elimination of the dirty ducks.

I don't know. Weber was arguably their worst player in the playoffs last season and was probably the reason they lost to the Sharks. He was better in Montreal this season but it's not like he was a force in the playoffs in their first round loss. Meanwhile the Predators are in their first ever Stanley Cup final and if anything that's the opposite of what you would hope as Montreal has a smaller window with Price and Weber on the wrong side of their prime while the Predators are going to be a good team for a long time.

Subban wasn't liked in Montreal and it sounded like it was at the point where they pretty much had to move him. I think the Canadians did OK given the circumstances.

It was a good move for everyone involved except maybe Shea Weber.

The biggest thing with the Weber/Subban deal is the contracts.

Both are excellent Dmen obviously, but the Weber deal is subject to pretty severe cap recapture penalties. That's no joke if the league actually enforces it.

Agreed.

However, the Forsberg deal might be the best trade in the last decade.

Their drafting has been unreal.

People are looking at Subban only having 10 pts and are thinking that he hasn't been a major force for the preds. Offensively he has 1 pt less than the leading Dman on the team in Ryan Ellis. Yea that is very surprising but what's even more surprising is that Subban has been one of their main shutdown defenders if not their main one. Logged the most icetime against Toews in round 1, Tarasenko in round 2 and altho I can't confirm it, I blv he did the same against Getzlaf in round 3, seemed to be out there a lot against him anyways. Naw he's not going to win the Conn Smythe, Rinne has that locked up in a Nash win but Subban has been a major force.

It doesn't really work like that.

I do think playing 7 games in 13 days is poor playoff scheduling, especially when they had planned 6 days off if the East finals ended yesterday.

Actually, it works exactly like that.
It's a game every other day.
That's playoffs.

A game every other day is actually better than most of the regular season schedule.

And if Carlyle has a problem with the number of games his team played, maybe he should have had them ready to play the games they did. Luck played a far greater role in how far the Ducks got than coaching and preparation did. As it was, given the way Getzlaf and Kesler no-showed the Preds series, they should count themselves fortunate they got it to a game 6.

I meant your "if you include the day before and day after" example. Doesn't change the fact you play 7 games in 13 days.

It's all semantics. If you want to look at it for the month of May, the Ducks played 10 games in 22 days. Now that sounds like they had a much easier schedule. Whining that the Ducks had such a difficult schedule is crap. Every team has virtually the same schedule. It's playoffs, suck it up and play.

If the Ducks wanted more time off, they shouldn't have crapped the bed in Game 6 against the Oilers. They would have have five days between games then.
