Robbed or not, we didn't win the cup. Iggy touched the trophy and screwed us.

Don't touch it.

According to Ron it was the 97 Flyers who first didn't touch the conference championship trophy.

And the last team to touch the Campbell Bowl was the Flames.

Kind of funny considering they lost, how did that turn into a superstition!?

Crosby not only touched the Prince of Wales Trophy, he grabbed it, then skated away with the trophy, and entered the dressing room with it.

So there you have it.

Pittsburgh: TOUCH
Nashville: NO TOUCH

That's the way it should be! Be proud of your accomplishments rather than act like they're icky

They touched the trophy in 2009 as well.

Does anyone know if Crosby touched it in 2008 when they lost the Finals to Detroit?

It is my understanding that they did not touch it in 2008. I think that is what prompted them to break that superstition and touch it in '09.

It's so silly to think touching a trophy may influence the outcome of a series in any way. I get that players are superstitious and habitual so I can understand why a team may do it but as a fan there's really nothing to debate or discuss seeing it has no more relevance than sunny weather vs a cloudy weather influencing the outcome of a game or series.

Yeah then it makes sense.

2008 - No touch, lost final
2009 - Touch, won final
2016 - Touch, won final

Obviously he's going to touch it this year again. Even if you only have a teeny little bit of superstition in you you're going to take the trophy with those past results.

I like when players touch it. While the Cup is the ultimate goal, it's kind of offensive to the fans to say ''well this trophy is nice, but it means nothing''. Of course it means something. If it truly meant nothing, then there's no point in hanging division/conference champion banners in every arena. If a team doesn't care about winning the conference trophy, then it sure as #### shouldn't matter about trying to win your division during a ''meaningless'' regular season, right? No point in having a President's trophy either since it doesn't matter. Hell, might as well cancel all the player awards since they don't matter, since I guess the Cup in the only goal.

Of course it matters. I wish more teams lifted the conference trophy and paraded it around the ice. It's a huge accomplishment to win the conference, fans feel pride over it, and it's an objective that has been reached. I think it's dumb when teams act like it's nothing.

I wonder if the current Prince of Wales knows about this trophy.

They should actually fly him in every year and have him hand it to the Captain of the Eastern conference champions

Also, I feel like playoff beards of the 90s were way gnarlier than today's beards. Are men these days not able to grow a beard like previous generations? Or is that all in my mind.
