I'm pretty sure any team would throw that money at him...crippling their team? no more than the Oilers will have to
I do think he signs long term but its max money...the offer sheet threat is real in this case

Heck if I'm buffalo I send over a max year/max dollar offer to McDavid as a long awaited dish best served cold offer for Vanek.
I mean there's no way that the Oilers don't match.

I will be VERY surprised if he is ever in a offer sheet position in Edmonton.

Agree with both of those.
There are teams who will make an offer sheet work. If for nothing else than to make Edmonton pay. And I don't see why McDavid signs this summer or gives up term, his two most valuable assets.

I think you should prepare yourself. He's a unique asset, and he knows it and his agent knows it.

Like Crosby? Malkin? Ovechkin? Ekblad?
You guys act like there has never been a player like this ever.

Edmonton will pay him whatever he wants and match any offer he gets.
Unless he desperately wants out of Edmonton (which I doubt considering they're not playing poorly) he'll be in Edmonton until at least UFA.

8 years 97 million (or whatever McDavid wants)
This is a non issue.

Pittsburg, Washington, Florida
You are probably right he doesn't get to that position...because the Oilers give him 12M/8.
makes for some tough decisions though, just saying they aren't getting a discount IMO

Like I said this is a new reality.
If McDavid wins the scoring title this year and or the Hart. I would expect him to demand the moon.
The only way the Oilers get him under a max length contract is probably at $12 million because he's going to want to be above Toews and Kane with the highest hit.
A shorter length deal will cost more.

And speaking of Ekblad, if you are Florida's GM, you have to be a bit concerned about his health prognosis, having just given him that big contract. His concussion susceptibility seems to be a growing concern.
And that becomes an issue when you " mortgage the farm" for one player. If the Oilers sign McDavid to a max term, max deal, you pray to the hockey gods that injury does not become a factor.

Personaly I have settled on 12.125 for 8. Anything less than this will be a win in my book. I used to hope for less but just don't see it.

Think he means 14m for his 3 UFA years of an 8 year deal.

4.66 for McDavid is a shrewd negotiation. I like it.

Why wouldn't the Flames throw a + max offer in? Make Edmonton break the bank to match.
13 mil 8years?
