App to split and join MP3s?

I've tried a couple and they're either loaded with adware, ancient and don't work, seem to work but create files that end up not being able to play, or just some combination.

Anyone know some good reliable software to split and join MP3s? On Windows.

I use Sony sound forge for audio work, i like it, it's quick and easy, lots of file save options.

I've always used "mp3DirectCut". Easy to use, freeware and enough features.

In iTunes, you can select song, get info, options, then extract excerpt.

Then, maybe you can join tracks this way in iTunes?

Assuming it's mostly just cut and paste and exporting, how about Audacity? I use it to snip off excess stuff on a "Youtube to mp3" cuts of certain stuff that isn't available anywhere else but Youtube, but I'm sure you can combine files if you wanted to.

I believe you will also have to install the LAME module to export the mp3.

Yeah I've used Audacity, just kind of manual if I want to combine say 103 files into 5. I've used others that you can specify a list of files to join (with sketchy results).

I'll give some of the suggestions a try.

Mostly it's a result of the crappy old audiobook player I use on iOS. It's so old working with too large or too small of audio files is wonky, but it's the only audiobook player I've found that has the one feature I really want (which is to have a sleep timer that gets reset when the phone is moved). So I have to work with whatever I get to get it into medium sized files of a few hours.

There's a free program for Mac called Audiobook Binder than combines mp3 files. However it only converts the mp3 to an audiobook format.

On Windows, it looks like it wouldn't be that hard to write your own. There's an open source audio library called NAudio.

There's sample code to split and merge using Naudio.

Interestingly enough, it looks like you can even straight concatenate mp3 files together, without even having to strip their headers.

Yeah I think I tried the straight concatenate once and the player I have didn't like them.. it would play the whole file, but it would only allow scrubbing through the size of the first file. Old broken software

I just use ffmpeg for that kind of work.

Audacity is the best for simple mp3 cutting. If you want to go more in depth you can download the Reaper DAW free trial (fully functioning, no shutdown date)
