Saw earlier on Twitter, that the ELT(Emergency Locator Transmitter) may have caused the fire on the ET 787. Going to in interesting to see what happens from there.
Lethbridge airshow goes this weekend, and the show-stealing Snowbirds will be here. It's always a big personal disappointment when the schedules don't work out and they can't come.
Must say I haven't actually been in a couple years, I'm pretty close to the field and have a great view from here. Parking is a bit of a walk depending on how early you get there, there's a dirt road north of the field to tons of parking northeast of the field. They shutdown runway 12-30 and it's lined with static displays, some years have been better than others but overall it's a great show.
The traffic situation will be the best it's ever been this year as they just upgraded highway to 4 lanes almost all the way down to the airport. Before, they used to ghetto rig the 2-lane bridge over the coulee and make it 3 lanes, directional based on time of day.

The REAL question is... can he watch it from your place?!
Not anything to have a gathering over, but I'm about 1.5 nm northeast of the threshold of 12. Nice view of them staging to make passes over the field. The CF-18 practising on the Thursday/Friday before the show tends to be the highlight of my summer as they use the southeast neighbourhoods as if they were the field.

If I were to go, I'd sit on your roof and watch. If you can see the demos, it's good enough for me!
How much of a gong show is it? I always want to go to airshows but the crowds and impossible parking and stuff always make it seem not worth it.
Do they have lots of good static displays?
I haven't looked at the schedule yet this year, but the static displays are adequate. Mostly smaller planes, but the CF usually puts on a good display. They usually have a Griffin, and I've seen the CC-117 Globemaster, the CC-130 Hercules and the Aurora sub hunter. They always have a great hands-on display of weapons, artillery guns and small vehicles.
Parking has been a nightmare in the past. However, last year I parked at the Enmax Centre, and took a free shuttle to and from the grounds. Painless and amazing. Will never do it any other way.
As others mentioned, buying a VIP pass can also make the experience a little more pleasurable.
The wife of one of the guys on team rocket (there's only 2, so...) rear ended me while we were waiting to get into the parking lot at the YRM airshow in 2010. And he wanted to settle it without insurance...
Long story short, I really wanted to ask him to take me on one of his practice flights or something, in exchange for not paying for repair costs, but I was too chicken to ask.
I've seen enough Harvards but I can't even remember if I've ever seen a Mustang in the air.
Though really my favorite are military aircraft, and I've seen the CF-18 so many times (heck I used to live near Cold Lake and saw them flying around all the time), and I don't know when US military airplanes are going to be at a Canadian Airshow again, maybe I should plan next year to go somewhere in the US.
Or I guess the Miramar Air Show in San Diego is Oct 4-6..
