Couple more pics from their Twitter. To fly across the water the planes need a couple mods, life rafts, high frequency radios, radios for use in Europe (8.33 KHz spacing) and a couple other things. It'd be cost prohibitive and unnecessary to do this to all the planes, so assuming this is one of the ocean-modded planes, this one might be committed to the east coast and we might not see her out here much unlike Mickey who flies throughout the system.
As for the little blue part that remains unpainted, they said on FB that they were unable to put the pattern there. Dunno why. Might be a sticker actually.
I prefer WestJet's tail to JetBlue, who debuted a tartan tail back in September. Might be where they got the idea.

Don't they all have life rafts as is? I thought they were in the ceiling around the centre of the plane. The flights to and from YYT definitely fly over lots of open water. Wouldn't that be a requirement? The North Atlantic and the Gulf of St. Lawrence aren't that different, or are these different life rafts?

Watching the Stars and Hawcs helicopters land at the Disaster Alley event today was pretty cool. My kids really enjoyed being so close to them as they were landing. Luckily we were up off the ground on one of the fire trucks so we didn't get blasted by the wind gusts and dust like the people standing right next to the barricades did.
I love the AgustaWestland helicopters that Stars uses. They are so beautiful.

I remember reading something about JetBlue not being able to fly further than 50 miles from shore on their NY - Florida flights without the upgraded rafts or something. Didn't really look into before I made that post.
Actually only around half of Westjet airplanes have life rafts on board. They are only required if more than 400 Nautical miles from shore. So they aren't required for any of the Carribbean stuff, just for Hawaii or trans Atlantic.
All airplanes have life vests for everyone.
The Following User Says Thank You to Ryan Coke For This Useful Post:
I have a few flights over the next month on Air Canada Rouge.
For each flight I paid the extra for a preferred seat (to have a standard 31" seat pitch over 29").
I was bored tonight and checked my seats (I'm a loser I know) and they moved the seats I picked. They're still preferred seats but no longer the window seats I chose but I'm on the isle. That's better then a middle seat, but I'm a window seat guy.
I realize the fine print says they can do this, but why would they at this point? Especially where I paid extra?

Possibly to accommodate a request from a high elite or Super Elite, alot of whom are already unhappy with the fact that Rouge exists, so it wouldn't be surprising for AC to shuffle in this case.
