After sleeping on this, and hearing the actual position Burke is in, I feel better about this.
I'd rather have Burke oversee Feaster than King. This brings another hockey mind to the team.

I think this does probably start the clock on Feaster's regime (remember, he's been in the position officially just over two years, and another half a year on an interim basis). But from what Burke said at least, he's not looking at putting his own guy in place or anything.

We'll see how things unfold and proceed.

I can remember when Burke went to Toronto, I remember thinking how cool it would have been to have had him hear, and how unlikely it would have been to have had him come here.

Happy to have him hear... I think his body of is generally posative, and I look forward to seeing him sculpt this team.

Bit of a letdown with Iggy and Kipper moving on, this should make the next year exciting...

Interesting that we now have two lawyers in the front office, and an all American staff.

I think it's a great move from the standpoint that having more analytical minds in the organization can't possibly be a bad thing. A welcome change from the Sutter regime.

Still hauling in $3 mil per yr for next 2 yrs from #Leafs Leftovers, Burkie might only be out-earned by Mike Cammalleri on the Flames - if $3mil per yr from us (Flames), then he's on par.

I still remember Brian Burke writing a letter to the editor in the Herald after the Ducks beat out the Flames in 2005.

It was very classy

I'm almost more excited about simply what hiring Burke means for this organization. He would have had his options... he wouldn't have come to Calgary if he didn't like the situation and the position he would be in.

I honestly think that the Burke / Feaster working relationship will come down to how well Feaster can push his pencil and whether or not his line of thinking compliments Burke's.

Obviously the first issue that has been brought to the front is the size of the team. Feaster has allowed size to take a back seat to "skill" or "hockey IQ" and Burke has come right out and said that he likes size.

It is not a very big issue but it will definitely be a place where they could conflict while discussing signing players, making trades, or picking prospects. If Feaster can find a way to keep promoting skill and hockey IQ and factor in Burke's desire for bigger players then I think they will end up with a good working relationship.

As for all the boo-hooing about meddling. I understood the complaints about not wanting the owners to meddle in the team or not wanting a non-hockey guy like Ken King meddling in the running of the team. I do not understand the concern with a President of Hockey Operations "meddling" in how the team is run. His title makes it pretty clear that is actually his one and only job.

I actually have been a fan of what Feaster has done for the most part. I think his strengths have been scouting and signing our current players to ridiculously good contracts (save for the Tanguay contract, which I hated from the get-go). With that said, I feel like Feaster has been pretty bad at going after "The Big Fish" type players whether it's through trade or free agency.

What I hope is Feaster keeps doing what he's good at, but the organization lets Burke do the Big Fish hunting so to speak. Say what you say about Burke's trades, the man does usually get the guy he wants at all costs. I think that is a good think to have in this organization.

Kevin Lowe is nowhere good enough to pull off being Hank. He's more like Wendy.

I don't remember that. What did he say? Did he thank the Flames for choking out in game 7??
