I can imagine the pain, heartache, stress, and sleepless nights you have been going through. 2016 and 2012 were very challenging years for our families, not much posting from me and I felt like giving up on multiple occasions, but hockey and especially Calgary Flames playoff hockey can be such a wonderful distraction.
I'm very glad that the Flames can offer you some much needed entertainment and hopefully about 16 wins, or at least 4. Thanks for sharing and stay focused on all the good you have going...it will get better.

Well, that was emotional. Like total perspective. I couldn't imagine being in your shoes. At this point I would have heart palpitations to hear the phone ring.
Glad you shared, because the perspective and the fleeting delicate life is just that.
I hope that you and your family are well.
Glad that the Flames can provided a well deserved distraction or escape to take your mind off of it. I think that is the whole purpose is to lift us out of our troubles if only for a moment, provide us with some inspiration and excitement that doesn't revolve around what is happening in our lives directly.
All the best!

Thank you for sharing your story, very courageous and helps put everything into perspective for everyone else.
I wish nothing but the best for your daughter. I was happy to read that texas flames fan has a friend who is able to live a normal life as I am sure that is all you ask for.
Your friend is in a better place... I couldn't imagine trying to battle a disease only to find out I am losing. Everytime my grandmother seems to beat something the Dr's find something else and this has been going on for years with several cancers. I can't even picture how low this would make someone go. Hopefully, you were able to say goodbye!
Having to be a rock for your wife after losing her mother while dealing with everything else means you must have the Hercules shoulders you refer to in your post! You are due some good karma and you deserve it. Hears to hoping the flames can lift your spirits and get on a good run!

Oh, jeez Sorry to hear... I can't imagine how difficult that was to write, but I hope it helped a little to get it all out there, and I hope some comfort is felt by all the obviously caring people in this thread.
My cousin was also diagnosed with Juvenile Type 1 Diabetes at age 16 and is now 46, living a perfectly healthy life with a 10 year old daughter and husband (in Calgary). It will take a while for your daughter to adapt, but the technology available these days should hopefully make it easier for her.
All the best to you and your family, huge hugs and much strength.
P.S. This community is pretty awesome. The responses you've gotten have really been heartwarming. Take care, and GO FLAMES!

Sorry that you've had so much to deal with all at once!
My family went through a similar situation 3 years ago, when my son only a few weeks after his 6th Birthday-and a few days before my daughters 9th Birthday-my son was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic!
Only a few months later, my dad died in a car crash as well!
But we've managed to learn a lot about my son's care, are using both an insulin pump and CGM (continuous glucose meter), and have a (relatively) healthy, happy 9 year old boy, who happens to be a T1D!
The bright side of his type 1, if any could be possible, is he is very advanced in math, and has learned quickly how to stand up for himself in regards to his care and in social situations.
My son is active in soccer and currently learning guitar! Some extra precautions are required, but we've worked hard to ensure he can lead as normal a childhood as possible.
If you'd like, my wife and/or I would be happy to answer any questions you might have, or help connect you with some resources in Calgary (JDRF organizes regular events to connect T1D families and I challenge diabetes also organizes events for kids/families).

Sorry to hear of the tough times. My daughter was diagnosed with Juvenile Type 1 Diabetes at 5 years old. She is now 22 and is living a happy healthy life. There were tough times of course, but that's to be expected. Just keep a close eye especially when sick (flu etc.)
Here is to hoping for a series win for you and your family and happier times ahead!

Sorry to hear man. I'm glad you've found your outlets to give you a bit of a smile during a rough time. They're lucky to have someone who will do what he can to find the rays of sunshine during a storm. It really speaks volumes to how big of a heart you got and keep showing everyone the true meaning of Staying Golden.
Keep your head up and best wishes to you and your family. Best wishes.

All reminders of how precious and finite our time is. Remember them well and be there for your wife and friend in their grief. So glad your daughter is well. I can't recall if there is evidence for ketogenic diets helping with the management of JD... I'll look into that for you.

Keep your head up man, I'm glad you felt like you could share your story with our CP family.
Wishing you and your family all the best.
To be completely on honest I was really afraid to let my guard down but CP has proven once again what a great online community it can be.
I don't know for what reason but I felt I really needed for me to post what we having been dealing with.
That a great load has been lifted. If only for tonight.
I read what I posted and all of your replies and pm's to my wife and while it was hard to read your words all of your words, we got through it. It is so heart warming that we thank you so much.
I think I exceeded my CP limit for thanks lol as I don't have option now
