If Ferland and Tkachuk had a baby, it would look like Lazar, and it would play like Lazar. Funny.

I didn't expect a win, nor did I expect to lose. Pretty much expected two teams to close out the season like they did. Rittich looks decent - it gives me some faith that if Elliott does go down (knock on wood) that the Flames will just implode. Gillies and Rittich I think could at least hold down the fort, but hopefully Johnson is back in action by the playoffs.

Can't wait.

Just for a minute, I want to project the starting line up next season:

Johnny-Monny-Ferland
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Bennett-Jankowski-Lazar
Some combo of Brouwer-Stajan-Chiasson-Hamilton-Bouma-Hathaway
(One will be lost in expansion, hopefully an expensive long term one)

Gio-Hamilton
Brodie-Stone
Kulak-Engelland (or equivalent replacement)
Bartkowski

Elliot
Rittich/Gillies

-I don't see room for Versteeg
-Enough options from the bottom 6 to sub in for Ferland if he struggles
-depending on a couple of factors, enough cap space to bring back all the free agents and possibly sign a top line RW

ROFL, that reminded me of this from waaay back.

We already know what Lazar looks like though, but it'd be funny to see a mash up of Ferland and Tkachuk pictures haha.

To me, the fact nobody got hurt in a meaningless game = win. Who cares about the score or the result. Could have been a 15-0 blow out either way, wouldn't matter.

Bring on Anaheim or Edmonton.

Here are the minimum qualification levels for ELC Schedule A bonuses that Tkachuk and Bennett should be eligible for...

Forwards
  1. Ice time (aggregate and/or per Game). Player must be among top six (6) forwards on the Club (minimum 42 Regular Season Games played by Player and comparison group). (Note: an Entry Level SPC may contain bonuses for both aggregate and per Game ice time; however, the maximum aggregate amount the Player may receive on account of the ice time category is $212,500.)
  2. Goals: 20 Goal Minimum
  3. Assists: 35 Assist Minimum
  4. Points: 60 Point Minimum
  5. Points Per Game: .73 Points Per Game Minimum (minimum 42 Regular Season Games played)
  6. Plus-Minus Rating: Among top three (3) forwards on the Club (minimum 42 Regular Season Games played by Player and comparison group).
  7. End-of-Season NHL All-Rookie Team
  8. NHL All-Star Game (selected to play or plays)
  9. NHL All-Star Game MVP

We don't know what exactly is in either of their contracts, but assuming they can receive the maximum allowed for all categories at the minimum threshold, they will receive...
Bennett: He was 5th in aggregate and 6th in per game ice time among forwards. That is the only category where he met the minimum. That should be a total of $212,500.

Tkachuk: He led all forwards on the team in +/-, and reached 35 assists tonight. That should be a total of $425,000.

There's a small chance Tkachuk could get named to the All-Rookie team, but it will likely be Matthews, Marner, and Laine. The only way that Tkachuk will make it is if Marner and Nylander somehow split the Leafs vote (or the voters don't want too many Leafs) and Tkachuk comes up the middle.

As a result, the Flames should have a small, but manageable, bonus overage carryover to next season.

Strong management (assuming BT gets re-signed)
Looks like a strong coaching staff
Great young core
Decent D and G prospect pool

Also, nice to see Chucky get his 200k assist on Lazar's 1st goal as a Flame.
It'll feel better when it comes crashing down for them.

Sometimes the greatest payoffs take the longest. Honestly I'm surprised they have been rewarded this long. And it might take until round two like with the 2014 Flames that admittedly lucked out on a lot of front but there are teams in the playoff better (and better built) than them and it will show. I am fairly certain of it.

Focus on the Flames and forget the circus up there. Loved Lazar's goal tonight! Was great to see. I want to see the kid get playoff action now on that fourth line. Edmonton or Anaheim, the true colours of each team will come out an character will persist (Calgary has way more than either). Flames are due for a lot of good luck after battling through a lot of crappy luck all year long. Taking down either team would feel so good. Let's do this!

Rest up then take these pretenders out. Playoff success > regular season success. And curse? What curse.

Meaningless game is meaningless. Not at all concerned about the Flames cooling down to end the season. It has been shown being hot or cold going into the playoffs means nothing when it comes to playoff success.

I can't wait for the playoffs. Bring on the Ducks or Oilers!

I was there in LA when they lost in OT in game 7.

Flames scored in OT first but it was waived off.

Monahan has to clean up those turnovers, a couple bad ones.
