Sad news, but apparently dead at age 66 of unknown cause. The Larry Sanders show was hilarious. All Stern fans have heard the "Hey Now!" clips played numerous times I'm sure.

If you haven't already seen it,he did Comedians in Cars this season. Probably the best one this season. He seemed to be in good health and as funny as ever.

Both It's Garry Shandling's Show and The Larry Sanders Show were unlike anything else on tv at the time, and both inspired many other shows that followed.
Without Larry Sanders, who knows if we'd even have all the great HBO shows that have come along since?

Blatantly stolen from AV Club commenter The Uvular Suspects:
This is the eulogy for Garry's life
The closing remarks on Garry's life
Garry passed away
And made us all remember
We're almost all cried out
How bummed are we so far
This is the eulogy to Garry Shandlin's life
The Larry Sanders Show is massively underrated even with all its awards, over the 5 or 6 years it was on in the 90s. Shandling, Tambor and Rip Torn were fanatastic. Launched the career really of Piven, and the celeb cameos were great, Sajak especially.
Even more was the fact that it was basically all based on truth. Shandling had an actual show for a while in the 80s and the Sanders Show was basically what happened/happens behind the scenes in the Late Night wars with Carson/Letterman/Leno then and now.
As a buddy said, that was the prototypical show for HBO in the 90's except unlike most HBO shows, it lasted years. No swear filters, with regular, casual, yet appropriate situational swearing and adult themes, but just excellent writing and acting. Cbc ran it late night on weekends.
Worth a rewatch.
