Thats a shame, he was doing a fantastic job of sewering the crap out of that team.

It makes sense that Roy is losing that job. The avalanche had a couple disappointing seasons in a row. They had a hard time closing games out or finding consistency.

That said, why wait this long? why not dump him at the beginning of the off season?

They didn't fire him. He quit because he didn't get along with what the other managment/owners wanted for the team.

Damnit. He was doing a delightful job of making it easier (for everyone else) to make the playoffs.

It sounds like he's quitting because he's not getting enough say in the organization? At the end of the day he simply doesn't have the personality to be an NHL head coach.

This reaks of "Sakic fired him, but let him save face in a market where he played half his career with this press release"

interesting....

It was interesting how pissed he was with Duchene celebrating his 30th goal last year despite the team not making the playoffs and losing an important game (it was a nothing goal relative to the game in question). Then the murmers of Duchene being shopped this summer.

wonder if there were issues between the coach and the players, and management sided with the players.

Makes sense. Probably forced to resign as he is not a very good coach.

Given Roy's ego, that statement is exactly what I was expecting. Would love to know the details of what they didn't agree on seeing as both parties want to win a Cup.

An interesting one due to the timing - if he was fired you'd think it would have happened much earlier.

I do wonder if all the rumors that Roy was the one who wasn't a fan of Barrie and wanted Duchene/Landeskog traded were true.

Barrie gets a 4 year contract, Duchene/Landeskog remain on the team, and all of a sudden Roy walks away since he doesn't see eye to eye with management.
